Achelse Kluis

History:

Between the fields and groves from the beautiful Limburgerse Kempen lays on the Belgian and Netherlands boundary the abbey the Achelse kluis. It’s a place with history: already in 1656 was here a house of praying and in 1846 found the Westmalle trappist-monk the Sint-Benedictus monastery.

The monks were with they model farm sore active in the arable farming and agriculture, but also by the industrialisation became there an end on this in the end of 1989. The decayed space of the stable and the cheese-factory became 10 years later a little brewery and a large cafeteria. It’s 84 years ago that they brewed beer for the last time. But since 1998 could they in Achel the authentic beer taste, brewed in the house brewery of the Achelse kluis. Brewermaster Br. Antoine stand guarantee for the quality of the beer. Since the summer of 2001 is the Achel “8” also in bottle obtainable.
