BY LAWS

1 The club shall be affiliated with The West Australian Croquet Association (Inc).

2 Additional officers of the club  :-
  Association Vice Captain
  Golf Croquet Vice Captain
  Equipment Officer
  Publicity Officer
  Delegate and Deputy Delegate to The WA Croquet Assn Council meetings
  Coaches

3 Two Standing Committees shall be formed  :-
3.1 Match Committee comprising President, Secretary, Association Captain, Association Vice Captain, Golf Croquet Captain and Golf Croquet Vice Captain. 
3.2 Social Committee comprising five (5) elected members.

4 Powers and Duties of Standing Committees
4.1 The Match Committee shall draw up a programme of events to be held within the club for both Association and Golf Croquet at the beginning of each season, make charts, notify members of closing dates, attend to Club handicapping if required.  WACA tournaments held at the club are to be organised by the Management Committee.
4.2 The Social Committee shall draw rosters for social days, WACA events, and tournaments, be responsible for all catering arrangements within the Club.

5 Duties of Officers of the Club
5.1 The President shall: 
� Chair all meetings of the Management Committee and all General Meetings and Match Committee Meetings. 
� Be ex officio member of the Social Committee and any other committee that may be formed at any time in the future but have no voting rights.
� Take on a supervisory role in the Club, in the interest of all members, and in all matters affecting the welfare of the Club. 
� Act as official spokesperson for the Club and present a report to the Annual General Meeting.
5.2 The Vice President shall: 
� Assist the President wherever possible and shall carry out the duties of the President in the absence of that Officer.








5.3 The Secretary shall: 
� Carry out such duties as the Committee from time to time direct, and shall have the custody of all documents belonging to the Club. 
� Conduct the correspondence of the Club. 
� Keep full and correct minutes of all resolutions and proceedings of the Management Committee and General Meetings and the Match Committee Meetings. 
� Be ex officio member of the Social Committee and any other committee that may be formed at any time in the future but have no voting rights.
� Maintain a record of all competitions of the Club and the Register of Members detailing the full names, addresses and phone numbers of each member. 
� Have a list of the names and phone numbers of all members of the Club available for all members if required.

5.4 The Treasurer shall: 
� Receive all monies on behalf of the Club, give receipts therefore and promptly pay such monies into Club accounts at such bank as the Committee may decide. 
� Keep correct accounts and books showing the financial affairs of the Club and other particulars ordinarily recorded in books of account of a like nature. 
� Shall make up the annual statement of accounts and balance sheet of the Club following the 30th day of June in each year which shall, after audit, be received and adopted by the members at the Annual General Meeting. 
� Make all payments by cheque drawn on the Club's Bank Account, such cheques to be signed by such officers as the Committee shall from time to time nominate.
5.5 The Association Captain shall: 
� Draw up games for Association croquet on club playing days, in accordance with recommendations from the General Meeting and shall call on the Match Committee for extra assistance where required.
� Arrange the play of Association tournaments within the Club.
5.6 The Association Vice Captain shall: 
� Assist the Association Captain in his/her duties; shall act in the absence of the Captain.
5.7 The Golf Croquet Captain shall:
� Draw up games for all golf croquet playing sessions.
� Arrange the play of golf croquet tournaments within the Club.
5.8 The Golf Croquet Vice Captain shall:
� Assist the Golf Croquet Captain in his/her duties; shall act in the absence of the Golf Croquet Captain.
5.9 The Equipment Officer shall: 
� Be responsible for all matters relating to Club equipment, with the exception of kitchen equipment, and attend to minor items at his/her discretion, 
� Recommend purchase of major items to the monthly meeting.
5.10 The Publicity Officer shall be responsible for all Club publicity.
5.11 The Coaches shall organise coaching classes and encourage new members.





6 Loss of or damage to Property
The Club shall not be responsible for the loss or damage to any article whatsoever brought in to the Club house by any member or visitor save to the extent of any insurance proceeds actually recovered by the Club in respect of such article.

7 Visitors
Visitors may be admitted to the Club premises provided always that they are accompanied by a member.  They must abide all Club Rules and By Laws and must pay a visitors fee (if any) as determined from time to time by the Club.

8 Complaints
All complaints shall be made in writing to the Secretary who shall submit them to the Committee if he/she is unable to satisfy the complaint.

9 Playing Rules
All play shall be conducted in accordance with the rules of croquet as settled or approved from time to time.  Notice of any local playing rules made by the Committee under the power herein contained shall be posted on the notice board at the Club and remain there for one month.

10 The Club Colours shall be violet, white and gold.

11 Playing attire shall be predominately white sports wear with flat soled shoes or other attire as the club may decide from time to time.

12 New members are to be encouraged to attend Tuesday mornings for progressive croquet.  Small competitions may be arranged by the Captain or Vice Captain.  As the need arises, and space is available, a court may be made available for new members on Tuesday afternoons.

13 Those players wishing to play with others on their own level, should inform the Captain before the draw.  The Captain may use his/her discretion depending on circumstances.

14 Club Playing Days shall be Tuesday all day, Thursday afternoons, Saturday all day, and other times as arranged.
Tuesday   commencing 9-30am  progressive croquet
       commencing 1-00pm  grade croquet where possible
Thursday  commencing  2-00pm  golf croquet and coaching
Saturday  commencing  9-00am  golf croquet and coaching
Saturday  commencing 1-00pm  draw generally at Captain�s discretion.
To be in accordance with the Club�s directions as issued from time to time.
All players shall submit their names fifteen (15) minutes before the draw.

15 Members shall attend on club playing days in time to set up the courts prior to commencement of play.

16 Meeting Days :  General Meetings shall commence at 9-30am on the first Tuesday in each month, unless otherwise arranged.  All financial members are expected to attend whenever possible.

17  No coaching shall be given on club playing days; advice to beginners may only be given upon request.  An exception is Tuesday mornings, when senior players/coaches are expected to assist their partners if they are new players.

18 No organised play on Good Friday, Christmas Day or the morning of Anzac Day.

19 Only the Secretary or Liaison Officer is authorised to give orders to the South Perth Council maintenance worker/contractor, unless authority comes from the General Meeting.

20 Players must be aware of the dimensions of their own mallet so that balls can be correctly measured on to the yardline.

21 Club Handicapping shall be as per WA Croquet Association handicapping.  Divisional boundaries shall be as determined by the WA Croquet Association Inc.

22 One (1) court is to be available on Saturday mornings for matches when required.

23 In the event of non appearance of a player for a scheduled match, without previous notice, that player shall forfeit that match, except in exceptional circumstances.

24 No player will be expected to play in any Club event when the player decides that the weather conditions could possibly put their own health at risk.

25  Entries for each Club event must be submitted on time as advertised, or as extended by the Match Committee.  Games may be fitted in on club playing days.  Only players registered with The W A Croquet Association through the Como club are eligible to play in the Club Championship Singles and the Club "B" Grade Championship Singles.

26 No Club event shall take place unless at least five (5) entries are received, except when exemption has been granted.

27 In the case of a member withdrawing from any Club event after the draw, or after commencement of play, without a valid reason, the entry fee will not be refunded.

28 Any postponed matches must be completed within the prescribed time for the event, otherwise they will be forfeited.

29 All competitors shall be permitted five (5) minutes practice, after the toss, before commencing their first match of the day.

30 All players leaving the court at the finish of the day�s play must accept responsibility for all equipment from the court being returned to its proper place in the equipment room.

31 Night play  :  Charges for use of lights shall be as set down from time to time by the General Meeting.  A social night may be decided by the Club, and other games between members are subservient to the needs of the social night.






32 Club Events
(a) Club Championship   Level play singles match open to all members affiliated through Como Club.
(b) B Grade Championship  Level play singles match open to all members other than those in Division 1 who are affiliated through Como Club.
(c) 3rd Division and 4th Division Championship   Level play singles matches for 3rd and 4th Division players who are affiliated through Como Club.
(d) Charlotte Burnett Memorial Trophy shall be a handicap doubles event.  Three (3) hour time limit.  Open to all members including those affiliated through another club.
(e) Hartland Camera Repairs Shield shall be a handicap singles event.  Three (3) hour time limit.  Open to all members including those affiliated through another club.
(f) Verna Waterhouse Trophy awarded to the winner of a singles competition for newer players.
(g) Golf Croquet Singles   Michael Titley Memorial Trophy.  Level play singles, 13 point game open to all members affiliated through Como Club. 
(h) Bob and Gwen Cameron Shield awarded to the winner of a golf croquet handicap singles event  Open to all members including those affiliated through another club.
(i)  Grace Hartland Shield awarded to the winners of a golf croquet handicap doubles event.  Open to all members including those affiliated through another club.

33 Club Awards  :
(a) Devenish Trophy shall be awarded annually to the competitor gaining the highest aggregate points in Club Events, with the exception of two (2) life events, played over the current season.
(b) Helen Dalziel Memorial Award shall be made to a newer player considered by the Match Committee to have shown progress during the current season.

34 Service Award
Guide Line    The Service Award is established to recognise exceptional service to the Como Croquet Club over a number of years by any of its members, either past or present.

Application can be submitted to the Club Secretary and must be signed by two current members.  No more than three Service Awards are to be awarded in any calendar year.

Information supplied with the application should show the following information re the proposed  candidate.

(a)  Number of years membership of Como Croquet Club  (minimum is 15 years).
(b)  List of the offices held by the candidate.
(c)  List detail of the offices held in The W.A. Croquet Association, if any.
(d)  Details of additional duties, such as coaching, refereeing, fund raising, committee work etc.
(e) Any other relevant information.

The application for the Award is to be reviewed and decided upon by the Management Committee.  The Award is to consist of a lapel badge suitably engraved.  The Award is to be made at a time chosen by the President.
