AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND
The former British empire extended its territories to distant lands such as the Australias and in as much over the years Creightons have shown their presence

The entries below are a direct copy of a search in the Irish National Archives relating to individuals by the name of
Creighton who were shipped out of the United Kingdom to the colonies for convicted crimes. I leave you to be the judge of the crime descriptions and offer them only as an addition in my search for the history of the Creighton name ... worldwide!
It is ironic that today people spend fortunes trying to make a life in these geographic areas and yet a few decades ago the colonial powers saw fit to banish certain individuals to these far off places - "out of sight out of mind " - I wonder what thoes same powers would say today?

My thanks go out to Don Crichton for providing me with these additional links related to subject matter.
Go to "Claim a Convict" at

or if you're looking for immigration related sites then please try

I found this Australian Convict Research site of some interest and hope that it can also be of interest and assistence to your research too.
Through my relentless searching I come across the name Creighton in various geographic locations usually of precolonial significance. The Australias offer also indication of the transit of the Creighton population from United Kingdom as once more a town which bears the name shows up in Victoria county just outside of Melbourne an area known as Creighton Creek River supports this town and on the east side of Melbourne the town of Crichton is revealed.
In the Visitors Guestbook of this site I read the following from
Ashley Rex Creighton -
"I am the eldest grandson descended from
John & Jemima Creighton of Gobur Victoria. It was this branch of the family that Creighton's Creek was named after."
Crichton Castle - Scotland UK
Creighton, Melbourne
Crichton, Melbourne The Creightons have also done thier bit to inhabit the relative small islands of New Zealand. To this date there is to be found roughly 150 peolple who share the Creighton name living on the islands but some 200 Crichtons which I find interesting.
In the city of Auckland Creightons have made their mark to. The street name of Creighton again presents its self as does the town of Creighton south of Queenstown. My thanks to L.Creighton for providing information in this matter.
Some New Zealand History which provides a short but frank description of the islands
This a general research New Zealand website that may provide some additional information and links
After much searching I have come across a region in New Zealand which contains not one but two mountains named Creighton & Crichton Mountain. These mountains lie very close to each other in the Lake Wakatipu region not far from Queenstown. Apparently Creighton Mountain was farmed by a family named Creighton whos decendants still live in the area.
To the right you will see a picture taken from
Mount Crichton. This I obtained from a German website at http://www.remote.org/jochen/travel/nz00-01/crichton.html

I am still trying to get some more info on these locations so if you know of any pictures the please let me know ....  stay tuned!
