To some taxi drivers, a cycle lane is the perfect place to park while cleaning out the cab.
The view from the bus (Malahide Road Artane). Note the car exiting the garage, blocking the lane & the delivery van totally blocking the cycle lane. Further on, you can see two vans, parked with their backs to the cycle lane. The parking area is for vehicles parking parallel to the lane but the rule is never enforced.

Car parked facing traffic & blocking the cycle lane.

Who would want to use this alleged 'cycle facility'?

Believe it or not, this is a 'cycle facility' - Surface quality - who cares?.

Official version of Cycle Paths - from DTO web site, The surface and markings look quite unreal and does not resemble any actual work of Dublin City Council that I am familiar with. There has been much debate in cycling circles as to whether or not the picture has been doctored. If anyone knows the location, I would be happy to take a photo of it in its actual condition.

Actual cycle path.
The designers never specified drainage. Many cycle paths and lanes flood after normal rainfall. This one remains waterlogged for days after a rain shower. Any cyclist will know the unpleasant experience of water and mud being picked up by the wheels and flung over trousers and up their backs. Engineers probably do not!

More water loggedbike lanes....
The only traffic on these lanes is from bicycles & still the markings have decayed.

Above, from the 'Sunday Independent' (13/1/2002) Motoring Page (usually reserved for 'reviews' of the motor industry's latest products) - The article shows a grinning Lite FM DJ, apparently oblivious to the fact that he's blocking a footpath and a cycle path which lie under his wheels like a hunting trophy. Says Mike: "I don't care what my car looks like as long as it sticks to the road." (or path.....)
