7th Annual DC CAG Fishin April 2002
27-28 April

Greetings all!

I'm hoping this will be an all inclusive message about the fish-in, letting you know everything well in advance of the event. If I leave anything out or you need to know more just drop an email.

THE CARP ANGLERS GROUP:

The fish-in is being held under the auspices of the Carp Angler's Group. For those of you who aren't already members but may be interested in joining you can send for information at the Carp Anglers Grou, alternatively if your ready to join up you can just send your $20 dues straight away. Membership includes many privileges, including a great newsletter, the opportunity to fish the classic in the Fall, great way to make contacts, etc.. If your not a member you don't know what your missing. You do not have to be a CAG member to attend this Fishin.

DATE/TIME:

The event is being held on Sat.-Sun., the 27-28 April 2002. We expect to be fishing the Tidal Basin from sunrise on Saturday to sunset Sunday.

VENUE:

We will fish the Tidal Basin on Sat. and Sun., which is backwater of the Potomac River, a little under 100 acres, located in the heart of Washington DC. As it's name implies the Basin is tidal and there is some current although it's not particularly strong in most places. We should be hitting the Basin at prime time. Previous years have shown the end of April/beginning of May to be one of the primer times to fish the Basin. I'm planning on an extensive prebaiting campaign (in conjunction with other local CAG members) which should make the fishing all that much better. The fish are numerous and at good weights. The Tidal Basin record is 57lbs+, while I don't expect to see any fish of that size caught over the weekend (I wouldn't be disapointed though), last year during the fish-in we had many fish over 20lbs with the best being a 37lber. For those of you driving in, your best bet is to park on Haines Point (free, all day) and then walk back to the Tidal Basin.

Please note that the area experienced a severe fish-kill last spring. I expect that we will not see the same amount of fish as in years past but that the fish that are caught should be of a good size.

LICENSES:

DC fishing licenses are required. The cost is $7 for residents and $10 for non-residents. That's the cost for an annual license. They can be difficult and sometimes impossible to obtain on a weekend. Your best bet is purchase one via mail in advance. Send your name, address, drivers ID #, daytime phone, DOB, age, sex, and a check made out to:

ACCOMMODATIONS:

The Gateway Days Inn at 2700 New York Ave. NE has been recommended to me ((202) 269-4317), several participants are staying there and it's close to the venue. A cheaper alternative is the Cherry Hill Campground (1-937-7116) which is a half hour drive from the venue. I'd recommend making reservations well in advance.

Hope that covers everything. Please contact me if you need anymore info. please contact me via email. Really hope that everyone can make it. Feel free to spread the word and bring along anyone who may be interested.
Thanks for your time!
Tight lines,
Pat
