I have completed working out the details of the 1st Maryland DelMarVa
CAG fish-in, my first hosting of a CAG event, for May 4-5, 2002. The
venue is the tidal Nanticoke River in historic rural Sharptown, Maryland
situated between Cambridge and Salisbury, Maryland and Seaford,
Delaware. The town and river is bisected by Maryland Rt 313, which is
easily accessible from points west by Rt 50 (Ocean Gateway) to Rt 54/313
to Rt 313 in Maryland;
from points north on Delaware Rt 13 to Rt 9 to Rt 24 to Rt
313. Prebaited swims will be Cherry Beach/Sharptown Park at the Rt 313
bridge; grassy-knoll bulkheaded swim just downriver of the Rt 313 bridge
and between Main and Ferry Street (across Ferry Street and accessible
from Cherry
Beach/Sharptown via Little Water Street).
A detailed and marked town
map, as
well as overhead pictures of the river and bankside will
be posted on the CAG fish-in web page shortly by Jack "Oat" Blackford.
The CAG has been kindly afforded round-the-clock fishing for the entire
weekend starting Friday night in the Park swim (regularly posted closed
at night) courtesy of the Town Comissioners; the bulkhead swim has no
night fishing restrictions. Umbrella-type shelters are preferred
however, discrete small tent/bivvy-type shelters can be used. Campfires
are prohibited. The swims are located right in town and in close
proximity to several residences/businesses and I have assured the Town
Commissioners that the CAG is an easy going, common-sense, and very
responsible group of
progressive-minded anglers. Restroom facilities will consist of portable
toilets placed throughout the recreation areas courtesy of the Wicomico
County Parks Department.
There is plenty of off and on-street parking next to the fishing areas. Motel accomodations are available in the nearby Delaware towns of Seaford, Laurel and Delmar (8-10 miles distance) as well as Salisbury, Maryland (12 miles distance); a list is available via Yahoo/motels/Sharptown. Ammenities such as gasoline/convienience store is available in town. Chesapeake Bay fishing licenses are required for the Park swim; the bulkhead swim is designated license-free by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Open Space Program. If you are from out of state I still recommend springing for the $6.00 Maryland Non Resident Short Term License (good for 5 days from date of issue) at:
