Literary Devices

Simile:
       -II, i, 90;  "Pale as his shirt,"  This is said when Ophelia is telling Polonius of her       encounter with Hamlet.
       -II, ii, 220-21;  "for you yourself, sir, should be old as a I am, like a crab, you could go backwards,"  Hamlet is talking to Polonius and insulting him.  He is saying he is not as smart as HAmlet and he is no good.
       -II, i, 91-2;  "A look so piteous in purort as if he had been loosed out of hell."  This meens that Hamlet looked so bad, that he looked as if he had been to hell abd back.
       -II, ii, 314-15;  "the earth seems to me a sterile promontory."  This meens that to hamlet the earth is a point of highland jutted onto the sea.  And, the world seems meaningless to Hamlet.

Metaphor:
       -II, ii, 395;  "an old man is twice a child."  This is saying that an old man has once been a child,  But, it is also saying   That even though a man is old in age he may act like child and be considered a child. 
       -II, ii, 288;  Beggar that I am..."  Hamlet is saying that he may be royalty but he doesn't feel like it.  He is treated like a beggar, which he is not.
       -II, ii, 192;  "You are a fishmonger."  He is telling Polonius that he is nothing.  He means as much to Hamlet as any fishmonger would. 

Allusion:
       -II, ii, 372-73;  "Ay, that they do, my lord- Hercules and his load, too."  He is comparing his life to Hercules supporting the globe on his shoulders.
       -II, ii, 400-01;  "My lord, I havenews to tell you: when Roscius was and actor in rome."  Roscius was a famous actor in Cicero's time.
       -II, ii,412-13;  "O Jephthah, judge os Israel, what a treasure hadst though!"  HAmlet quotes a great sixteenth cetury man, Jephthah, who had to sacrifice his daughter.
