Instructions for Creating a Bootable Windows XP CD-ROM

 




Requirements:
  • ISO File Extractor Software:  WinImage  or  ISO Buster

  • CD Burning Software:  Golden Hawk CDR-Win  [ Warning: The Demo only runs at 1x, better find the crack... ]

  • Windows XP Bootsector File:  xpboot.bin  [this type of file may be a hidden system file, unhide to use...]

  • Hard Drive Space:  Original ISO is about 500MB + your raw files about 500MB + finished ISO about 500MB.

 

Launch [ WinImage ]

 

Select File, Open the downloaded ISO file

 

Select Image, Extract, Type in the Path [ D:\XP-CD\ ] , Select [ Extract with pathname ]
Add any other new files to the CD right now.

 

Once extracted, launch [ CDRWIN ]

 

Select [ File Backup and Tools ] button (the button with the screwdriver and wrench)

 

Select [ Build an ISO9660 image file ] from Backup/Tool Operation menu

 

Click the [ Directory... ] button

 

Select the location where you put the download ISO files, I used [ D:\XP-CD\ ], Click OK button
Your selection should now be seen in the [ Directory or Filename ] box

 

Click the [ Add ] button, Your selection should now be seen in the bigger box below [ Directory or Filename ] box
Uncheck [ Preserve Full Pathnames ]
Check [ Include Hidden Files ]
Check [ Long Filenames (Joliet) ]
Check [ Include System Files ]
Check [ Recurse Subdirectories ]
Uncheck [ Include Archive Files Only ]
Check [ Check Directory Depth ]
Check [ Disable Version Numbers ]
Uncheck [ Generate Raw Sectors ]
Uncheck [ Disable DOS Compatiblity ]
In the Image Filename box type, a place to store the ISO file
preferably not in the original directory...I chose [ D:\Burned\WXP-Corp.iso ]

 

Click the [ Advanced Options... ] button, click the Volume Descriptor tab
In Volume Label type [ WXPCORP_EN ] in all caps
In Publisher Name type [ MICROSOFT CORPORATION ] in all caps
In Preparer Name type [ MICROSOFT CORPORATION ] in all caps
Check [ Use ISO9660 text for Joliet volume descriptor ]

 

Click the Bootable Disc Tab
Check [ Make Bootable Disc ]
Select [ Custom ] from Media Emulation Type
Select the xpboot.bin file you saved [D:\Burned\xpboot.bin ] from Image File Name
Type [ MICROSOFT CORPORATION ] in the Developer Name
Type [ 07C0 ] in the Load Segment Name
Type [ 4 ] in the Load Sector Count

 

Statistics...

 

Progress...

 

Once completed...
Select [ Record an ISO9660 image file ] from Backup/Tool Operation menu
Check [ Finalize/Close Session ]
Check [ Write Postgap ]
Uncheck [ Open New Session ]
Uncheck [ Verify Recorded Image ]
Uncheck [ Test Mode ]
Check [ Enable BURN-Proof ]
Click the [ Start ] button to start burning.

 

Progress...

 

Complete...!

 

COMPLETE !!!
My CD drives are set to Auto Notification/Insert, so when the burn is done...the XP Welcome screen appears!
