Golden..
< ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------->
the golden discus is a rather unique strain of discus. this strain of mutation was discovered by Mr. Kim Kheng How of Penang, Malaysia while he was breeding browns.

a pure golden has  prominent ruby red eyes, which has proved to be a good tool to improve the eye colour of other strains. another good use is that it can remove the black pigmentation from the Pigeon-Blood strain to such a great degree that after many generations, the Golden X Pigeon Blood possesses great similarities in looks.

because of the uncanny resemblance between the 2, many unscrupulous dealers are selling Pigeon Blood discus as Goldens and this has led the market to be flooded with 'fake' Golden strains.

(not out-crossed)
other than the obvious peppering of the Pigeon Blood discus, there are still several other methods to tell between the Golden and the Pigeon Blood discus.

when the Golden has reached maturity and is in breeding mood, the INNER dorsal and anal fins will turn dark like a dark ring. for a Pigeon Blood discus, there is almost always black pigmentation (peppering) at the bottom OUTER edge of the anal fin whether it's in breeding mood or not.
