Support several long-term SIS clients with Unix and network administration as well as providing technical support for sales and initial installs. Involved in architecting and implementing highly automated installations and monitoring projects at large client sites. Provide high-level technical support for problem resolutions.
Platforms supported include Sun Enterprise 4000s and 450s and Silicon Graphics Origin 200s and 2000s. Includes maintaining Sun Competency and Silicon Graphics Certification.
Ongoing support for several other clients on a part-time basis. Support includes system and network administration as well as Internet firewall administration.
Unix system and network administration on a long-term support contract with Vastar Resources, Inc. Included support, upgrades, and new projects for Sun and Silicon Graphics servers and workstations including Ultra 6000s. Involved in evaluation and implementation of new technologies.
Implemented transition of 50gb of user data from a troubled Epoch HSM system. The transition had to maintain both the new NFS Enterprise 6000 server as well as the old Sun System 670MP over a 3 month period. The new solution using Veritas Volume Manager and File System on a Data General CLARiiON RAID rack gave much more reliability and faster service. Further ease of maintenance and flexibility was gained by converting to the use of automounter.
Assisted in Unix audit preparation by cleaning up system configurations and limiting access to root. Helped author the new security policies and procedures. Installed sudo as part of the security implementation. Auditors were impressed by the Unix security.
Spearheaded effort to utilize CDE to launch the 50+ applications available to users. This required a proof of concept that CDE could provide an easily maintained user-friendly interface. In charge of the final implementation and roll out to users.
Supported several other clients on a part-time basis. Support included system and network administration as well as Internet firewall administration.
