| Valentine, nickname Val, is the middle child in the dysfunctional Wiggin family. She protects her younger brother Ender from the malicious older sibling Peter. She is the only person that Ender cares about before going to Battle School, and ever afterward he has never been closer to anybody than her. She isn't a weak little girl, she displays a strength of will and sharpness of mind that is truly astounding, yet still believable. Every day of her life, her only relevant concerns are for the well-being of her little brother. Val is one of my favorite female characters, and not only because she cares so much about Ender. Her persoanlity is everything I want to be: strong, steadfast, and yet caring as well. |
