Poet's Corner
Over the years on special occasions as Historian of the 275th Armored Field Artillery Battalion, DeLoyd Cooper, has written
poems to be read at reunions or mini-reunions of the organization. An attempt will be made to keep the members and
veterans abreast of interesting items and events. There have also been sad news to report. This, unfortunately is one

 of those times.

Bob Schnulle's daughter, Dr. Linda Jones, sent the sad news of her dad's death. Although sad, here is the text of the
obituary that was in the local newspaper.

Robert Schnulle

Robert Schnulle passed away peacefully in his sleep sometime on the evening of Friday,
September 29th in the Countryside, Illinois home that he shared with his wife, Alvanell.
Bob was just two months short of his 87th birthday at the time of his passing, and in spite of
declining health, his family felt blessed that he could remain in the home he loved, due entirely
to his wife's loving  care. Bob was the youngest child of Olga Jesse Schnulle and Ernest Schnulle,
who immigrated from Germany at the turn of the century.
Bob grew up in Cicero, Illinois, along with his siblings George, Henry, Hazel, and Ernest,  where
the extended family remained for many years.
As a young man, Bob accepted a position with Illinois Bell Telephone Company, and rose from a
lineman position (climbing telephone poles and stringing cable), all the way to District
Engineering Manager for the south division of Chicago, ending his career in 1982 with 36
year's of service.  During his retirement, one of his favorite activities was the weekly lunches
with the "Mippers", the men who took the Management Incentive Plan and retired at the same
time as he did.
Bob was a veteran of the Battle of the Bulge serving with the 275th  Armored Field Artillery
Battalion, and went on to serve in the Illinois National Guard, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.
One of the great joys of his life was the bi-annual reunion meetings which the 275th began in
1984 and still continue.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Alvanell Riddle Schnulle, who left her family in Texas to
marry her sweetheart at the end of W.W.II; his children Alan Schnulle (Heidi Novack), and Betty
Henry (Jim) who still make their homes in the Chicago area; and his daughter Linda Dillon Jones
(Kit.) who resides in Columbia, Maryland.
Nell and Bob have seven step-grandchildren: Clay, Ted, and Michael Morse, Vanessa and Devon
Jones, and Dan and Kara Henry. Alan's daughter Alex, is now a senior at Downer's Grove South.
Visitation will be at Hallowell and James Funeral Home at 1025 55th Street in Countryside from
3:00-9:00 p.m. on Monday, October 2nd.  Bob and Nell were members of Warren Park Presbyterian
Church in Cicero for 59 years, and the funeral will be held there on Tuesday, October 3rd at 11:00 a.m.
The church is located at 6130 West 21st Street in Cicero.
Interment Woodlawn Cemetery. Funeral info: 708-352-6500.
