"I remember the position along the Roer River: Cpl Corr cleaning the tube. When I reconned it there was a high tension electric line across the front so I contacted a nearby Engineer outfit and a Lt. and Sgt came up to blow down one of the steel towers.
"They put that putty like explosive on each of the four supports and wrapped
it in primer cord. the Sgt and I got deep in a bomb pit, but the Lt. stood
on the edge and set it off. A small piece of metal hit him in one knee and
he hollered. We gave him a shot and got the corpsman from his outfit. All
he could say was, "I've got a million dollar wound." Comments by: Frank J. Brundage, "C" Battery Commander |
