TO RETURN TO THE BOOK REVIEW INDEX,
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is just one of four amazing books by J.K. Rowling. It is the first book in the Harry Potter series.  It is about a boy whose parents were killed when he was just a baby.  But he wasn't just a normal baby, and his parents weren't normal people, either.  His mom was a witch, and his father was a wizard, and so was he! The Dursleys, some of Harry's relatives who took him in after his parents died, said that his parents had died in a car crash.

Harry didn't find out that he was a wizard until he was 11 years old.  And when he did find out, he found everything out.  First he found out that he was a wizard, and then he found out that his parents had been killed by Voldemort, the most feared wizard that ever lived. Then he found out that he was supposed to go a school called "Hogwart's School of Witchcraft and Wizardry" in a few weeks.  This came as a huge shock to Harry because he was raised by the Dursleys to believe that there was no such thing as magic.

When Harry arrived at Hogwarts, everyone was talking about him.  Harry and his two friends, Ron and Hermione, were always getting in trouble.  Like when they tried to sneak to Hagrid's place and Draco Malfoy, Harry's enemy at Hogwarts, caught him; and when they were in the forbidden place on the third floor, and they found Fluffy, the three headed-dog. And mainly, when Harry, Ron, and Hermione tried and succeeded to get past Fluffy to look for the Philosopher's Stone.  When they got past Fluffy and the other obstacles, only Harry got to where Voldemort was.  Voldemort could not touch Harry because it burned him when he did.  So Harry grabbed Professor Quirrel's face (who had Voldemort's spirit inside him) and Voldemort burned up.

There are three other books in the series.  The second one is called
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.  In this book, Harry finds a secret chamber where a creature called a basilisk is living.  In this chamber lives none other than Voldemort, who was not killed in the first book.  But he is much stronger now.

The third book is called
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.  It is about a vampire who escaped from a prison called "Azkaban".  And Harry finds out that the vampire is his uncle.

In the fourth book, called
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the Triwizard tournament, a tournament where three wizards must compete to complete three tasks to get the wizard cup, comes to Hogwarts.  Harry, who was too young to compete in the tournament, was mysteriously picked out of the Goblet of Fire and forced to compete in the tournament.
