Process

Our class shall divide into three groups.  Each group will be responsible for one part of the class presentation.  In addition to the tasks assigned within each group, each student must choose one work of art at the Guggenheim and write a one-page description of this work.  These descriptions, along with scans of the works described, will be incorporated into the final presentation.

Group Roles:

Photographer
Must take photos of the class before the actual trip as well during the trip.  Trip photos should include shots outside and inside the Guggenheim museum (wherever photos are permitted).  The photographers will consult with each other and with the reporters when assembling the story of the trip.

Reporter
The reporters will tell the story of the trip itself.  The story will be divided into the following segments:

Group 1
Identifies the school and the individuals involved; tells how the class learns about the trip and the preparations that have to be made

Group 2
Tells what happens on the way to the Guggenheim Museum

Group 3
Tells what happens in the guggenheim Museum; their part must include a description of the Museum

Group 4
Tells what happens once the group returns to school

Historian
The historian will write a summary of the material his or her class studied in preparation for this trip.  The content areas (subjects) will be assigned thusly:

Group 1
Social Studies

Group 2 English

Group 3 Music

Group 4 Art

Researcher
Each student must choose one work of art at the Guggenheim Museum and write a one-page description of this work.  These descriptions, along with scans of the work described, will be incorporated into the final presentation.  The description must identify:

*
the title of the work

* the name of the artist (when known)

* the date of creation (if known)

* the genre of the work (the type of painting or sculpture, the school it belongs to) with appropriate background information

* historical facts about the figures or setting (if known)

Editor The editors will collect electronic copies of everyone’s work and check it. Editors have the authority to correct errors in spelling, punctuation, and grammar.  However, the original author must approve the revised work before it can be included in the presentation.  (In rare instances, with the consent of the teacher, student work may be returned to the author for revision before the Editor makes any needed corrections in mechanics.)

Finally, the editors will assemble all student submissions into an MS Word document that will accompany the MS PowerPoint presentation. This document will include the list of resources from the Webquest as well as any additional resources used by the groups; the list will be presented in MLA format.

Layout Artists
The layout artist will be responsible for creating scans of all artwork selected by the historians for individual review.  They will present each historian with a scan of his or her selected work for inclusion in the MS Word presentation.  The layout artists will consult with each other when creating templates for the individual slides and for the “title credits” cards.  Lastly, the layout artists will be responsible for putting all student visuals (photos and scans) as well as title and credits cards into an MS PowerPoint presentation

Please Note:
You must obey the fair use guidelines on the use of copyrighted material.  You must include the following warning at the beginning of your presentation, as appropriate:  “The photos and scans in this presentation are used under fair use guidelines and are restricted from further use.”
