NATURAL SITES

  1. THE AGUSAN RIVER

    This is the biggest and longest navigable river in Mindanao. a cruise along the river Barangays reveals so much Butuan's history, culture, arts, and people. As atribute, to the Patroness of the Agusan River Senora Sta. Ana, the ABAYAN Festival was born - a day long celebration of Baroto races and fluvial procession at the Agusan River.

  2. MT. MAYAPAY

    Looming southwest of Agusan Valley is the majestic mountain plateau, an intersting landmark in Butuan City. It is 2,212feet above sea level.

    Mt Mayapay got its name from the ancient Madjapahit empire. The same Madjapahit Empire that counted around the 10th or 11th century.

    The history behind the Sri-Vishaya period bears much meaning and influence of Butuan's pre-historic and archeological discoveries.

  3. MT. HILONG-HILONG

    A challenge for mountain climbers who would venture on the undiscovered passages of Mt. Hilong- Hilong. The 2,012 tall Mt. Hilong-Hilong is known to be the tallest mountain in the province of Agusan del Norte. Waterfalls and a lake reputed to be enchanted are among its special features.

  4. LAKE MAINIT - Jabonga and Kitcharao, Mainit

    Third largest freshwater lake in the country constituting an aproximate surface area of about 14,000 hectares with 50 kilometers stretch of shorelines.

  5. SAK-A FALLS - RT Romualdez

    Cascades over huge boulders bordered by vegetation of towering trees and giant ferns.

  6. TAGNOTE FALLS - RT Romualdez

    Cascading water is broken by boulders which also serve as diving ponds for bathers.

  7. HUMULOOG CAVE - RT Romualdez

    The cave boasts of mysterious stalagmites in its echoing chambers.

HISTORIC AND CULTURAL PLACES

  1. HISTORIC MAGALLANES MARKER

    It was erected in 1872 under the leadership of Gov. Mar Carvello. It is in commemoration with the celebration of the First Mass in Mindanao which was held on April 8, 1521.

  2. THE BALANGAY SHRINE MUSEUM

    Just 5 kilometers from the City lies the graveyard of the Balangay I dated 320 A.D. or 1620 years old. This wooden plank-built or edge-pegged boat average 15 meters in length and 3 meters wide across the beam. To date, 9 balangays have already been discovered in the Ambangan and Libertad Sites. In no other locality in the Philippines or Southeast Asia for that matter, has there been such a rare and extensive discovery of the maritime vessel and cultural relics associated associated with an affluent seafaring in this part of the globe except Butuan.

  3. THE BUTUAN REGIONAL MUSEUM

    This museum is repository of the historical and cultural materials and artifacts that proves Butuan's pre-historic existence and rich cultural heritage. there are two galleries. The archeologicdal Hall and the Ethnological Hall. Specimens of stonecrafts, metal crafts, woodcrafts, poteries goldsmithing, burial coffins, and other archeological diggings are exibited. At the Ethnological hall are exhibits of of temporary cultural materials the Butuanon or every Filipino for that matter used for a living.

  4. DIOCESAN MUSEUM OF ST. JOSEPH CONVENT

    It showcases collection of religious and liturgical arts and materials used by Religious Missionaries of Agusan and Surigao Provinces. The collection ranges from all kinds of Church vestments and paraphernalia.

  5. NIPA WINE DISTILLERY

    Location: Barangay Babag

    "LAKSOY" is a local wine made out of indigenous Nipa Palm that abound in Butuan. It goes through a process of fermentation from a crudely made vat only a native Butuanon can ingenuously produce. Laksoy is definitely one of the best tasting local wines in the island.

  1. TUBAY BEACH RESORT

    Location: Municipality of Tubay

    A Shangri-la in Caraga Region due to its beautiful location.

    A complete hide-away for lovers, tourists, and relaxing businessmen. It is hidden in a cove where mountains and sea literary meet covered with lush flora and fauna. Exotic birds and deers frequented the enchanting place.
