ANZAC Day March
25 APRIL
|
This year's ANZAC Day march was helped along with the City of Devonport Brass band's playing of V.C., Simplicity, and 1914 (featuring Australian old-time favourites Tipperary, Hello, Who's Your Lady Friend and Take Me Back To Blighty). The memorial service was also nicely complimented by a choir to help sing the hymns St. Ann and Nearer My God To Thee. Thanks to Guy Carey, Julia Haywood and John Timmerman (side drum) for their assistance in the march, and to Peter Georgiades and Robert Apse for their Last Post recitals (at the dawn and 11am service respectively). |
Miandetta Primary School Fair
30 MARCH
|
Unfortunately, with the change back from Daylight Savings Time, the City of Devonport Brass band were almost left in the dark to play at his year's Miandetta Primary School Fair. Thankfully the enthusiastic crowd, still awed from the belly dancers, were still entertained with our performance. Most band members stayed after to be rewarded by the techni-coloured display of fireworks. |
Relay for Life
24 MARCH, Penguin Oval
|
The City of Devonport Brass band marched off this year's 'Relay for Life' with a record number of participants following closely behind. After our opening lap, the band continued playing (sitting down) for the keen relayers during the start of their fundraising efforts. Thanks to Guy Carey (Drum Major) and Julia Haywood (bass drum) for their assistance. |
Meercroft Fair
24 MARCH, Meercroft Home for the Aged
|
Both young and not-so-young ears were delighted with the musical sounds played by the City of Devonport Brass band, including The Best Of The Seekers, Mission Impossible theme and Aqua's Barbie Girl. |
Taste the Harvest
11 MARCH, Mersey Foreshore
|
With great weather adding to a wonderful atmosphere, the City of Devonport Brass band played a number of 'acoustic' tunes for the morning crowd. Some members stayed after to indulge in the delicious food and wine on offer. Thanks to Dick Beaton (drum kit) for keeping the beat! |
Cruise ship farewell
4 MARCH, Devonport Wharf
|
After taking a look onboard the visiting H.M.B. Endeavour and Australian Navy vessel, the City of Devonport Brass bade the cruise ship Saga Ruby a musical farewell. Our members were impressed with the Port of Devonport security's check of our instrument cases (thankfully no violins in the band), and our extended performance was warmly received by the departing passengers. |
Devonport Kite Festival
25 FEBRUARY, Meercroft Park
|
The City of Devonport Brass band had a challenge this year at the Devonport Kite Festival with the annoying abundance of flies. Thankfully the wind picked up to blow the pests away and helped the colourful kites lift to the skies for an excellent family day. |
Australia Day Celebrations
26 JANUARY, Devonport Entertainment & Convention Centre
|
With a different format to this year's Australia Day Celebrations, the City of Devonport Brass band started the day off playing behind the DECC to an early morning crowd. A number of musical items were played, including an Australian Medly (arrange by Martin Ter Wee) with Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport, Road To Gundagai, Click Go The Shears and I Still Call Australia Home. Thanks to the Devonport Lions Club for the warm breakfast, and to the young Elliott (drum kit) for keeping us in time. |
