Yamato is probably the second most main character in Digimon Adventures. He is also probably the most developed character in the whole show. He is a loner and seems to have a cold and stuck up attitude. Yamato's family broke up and he was seperated from his younger brother. His father isn't home alot and Yamato is by himself most of the time. He had to grow up at a young age and having no one to turn to or trust has caused him to become a cut off person. He is very protective of his younger brother and it gives him a sence of purpose and belonging but when Takeru appears to no longer need him he becomes withdrawn and confused. He can easily be used weither he wants to or not and his conflict of emotions cause him to fight with Taichi. He wants to be friends but his fear of rejection and betrayal stop him from becoming very friendly with the others. He seems to ignore the girls showing no interest in any of them and usually if he talks to others its the other boys. He leaves the group during the dark masters story arc and in that last story arc learns more about hiself and the other Chosen Children. He learns they do care and wish to be friends with him. In the end its Taichi's unstopping faith and friendship toward the boy that brings Yamato back to the others.
Yamato has the crest of Friendship and many do not think this is the right crest for him. He himself question why and later learns the answer. Yamato is the most angsty of the group also the one that shows it the most. His crest like the others is not only for himself. The friendship of the others especially the one that talks to him the most,Taichi, brings him to the realization that their are people that care for him.
Yamato has a lizard/dog type digimon named Gabumon. Gabumon is very loyal and will always follow Yamato no matter what he does. He supports Yamato and tries to help in anyway he can. Gabumon proves time and time again to be a trustworthy and loyal friend. He shinka to Garurumon, chou-shinka to Weregarurumon, and warp shinka to Metal Greymon. He can also Jogress shinka with Wargreymon to become Omegamon.
