The Captains and Crew of Edan's Sailing Ships

The name Ḍchas comes from the Gaelic word for hope. She is a square topsail schooner. Schooners could sail closer to the wind and they could be sailed with a smaller crew. Schooners have carried every conceivable cargo. They were used for coastal work, ocean voyages and on the Great Lakes, In the late 1800's there were over two thousand schooners on the Great Lakes, hauling everything from lumber to apples. Over the years schooners have been used as pleasure craft, cargo carriers, privateers, slavers, fishing boats and pilot boats. It is the ideal ship for sailing both up and down the river, as well as along the coastline. She has a sparred length of 111', a rig height of 90', a draught of only 10' and her sail area is 4111 square feet. She has accommodations for up to 20 crew and passengers.
