1981 DMC DeLorean Vin #2467 |
THE PROJECT BEGINS |
When I first got My DeLorean My attitude was "I'm keepin this baby ALL ORIGINAL". |
Well folks Thats it I've had enough, IM GIVING UP ON THE ORIGINAL POWERTRAIN!!!! Im tired of breaking down, overheating, spending a fotune, and starting when it wants to! |

MY PLAN: |
TO GO FROM THIS......... |
TO THIS .............. |
Picture above: Original DeLorean PRV V6 130Hp (Taken from Duke's DeLorean Site, Where he did a chevy conversion). Picture Right: Cadillac Northstar V8 300Hp 295ft-lbs of torque (taken from ACE engine conversions. They do this swap profesionaly but at a price of $20,000.) |
I would have never even joked about replacing the DeLorean Powertrain in the past but things change and my attitude has changed to (for the better). I blame myself for all of my DeLoreans Problems, I was not as involved with the car as i should have been But all thats changing. Now I know Its going to be difficult and even Expensive BUT IM DETERMINED. Basically Im going to Replace the PRV V6 @ 130HP With a Cadillac Northstar V8 @ 300HP, Im going to replace the 3 speed ZF automatic Transmission with a new 5 Speed ZF automatic (or auto/manual) Transmission. Thats not all. I plan on having the interior REupholstered in saddle brown (used on Gold DMC), Lowering front and rear suspension, converting Headlights to xenon, and converting Park/Turn lamps, side markers, door, and even taillights to L.E.D.(got the idea from another DeLorean owner who did everything but the taillights). this is going to be the first time I CUSTOMIZE and IMPROVE my DMC. The most customizing ive done to her in the part was put seat covers on (WOW). The Powertrain conversion Is going to mean Modifying: COOLING SYSTEM:- Got to cool The big Powerfull Cadillac V8 (I never want to overheat). Probably go with Cadillac Cooling. FUEL SYSTEM:- Have to make sure that big ol' Caddy Engine gets its fuel EXHAUST SYSTEM:- Nice beefy V8 Rumble. Definatly going with FLOWMASTERS & high flow CATS ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:- This is going to be the hardest part im told, Right next to the fuel system. The cadillac engine is electronicly controled in every aspect so this is going to be a bit of a challange The Project Begins.................................... (once my digital camera comes i will post pictures throught this very large conversion.) UPDATE 11-18-02: I have Removed the engine and tranny from the DeLorean so far and Have purchased a 2001 Cadillac Northstar Engine out of a Cadillac Eldorado ETC with only 26,000 Miles (exactly 10,000 miles less than my DeLorean has). I am also in the process of purchasing a Porsche 4 speed Automatic Tiptronic Tranny from a 93 porsche 911 (the 5 speed wouldnt fit). check it out PROGRESS |
