A Conversation

Reynaldo:

Basically we hang in the middle of a huge chase between us and the captain and his musketeers. The Highlander and I are each on horseback and about to break for it while the Castillian is currently sharing his mount with a very amorous musketeer whom will not stop clinging to him.

William:

We're running from Captain du Chevalier and his musketeers in a small village on the way to the river port city of Manche, there to book passage to Ussura. Enrique is struggling to remove a stubborn musketeer from his horse and Reynaldo and myself are about to escape while the rest of the pursuers can't see us. We could be in trouble because the captain knows where we're going (since I unfortunately let that fact slip while speaking with him). If he gets there first, it'll be hard to get passage on a ship. I have to figure out how to catch the dear captain by himself so I can have a little friendly chat with him.

Reynaldo:

The highlander slipped up but then again why would the captain believe we were actually headed to the port city? He believes us to be criminals so why would we tell him the truth? Unfortunately the road we are on only goes to Manche from the capitol but we could cut overland and head back to the Charouse. We could sneak in, disguised, and book passage through some of the highlander’s shadier friends.

William: We are supposed to meet Valliere at Manche. We'll probably catch a boat down the river and go by sea. The river takes us to the heartland of Ussura and that’s probably not where Montegue’s army is. He would have had to march 100,000 men across the continent. I figure he went by sea and landed on the coast. That’s where we can pick up the trail.

Reynaldo:

What about the port city we started in before going to Charouse?

William: Even if you want to go back to that port city it would be very hard to find sea dog contacts there. That is where my crewmates were hung. It still sounds like a good idea to me though. There's a pretty young doctor that I wouldn't mind dropping in on. But that would be too much backtracking and probably not worth it. I think the best thing would be to make it to Manche and find a shady character; someone who really doesn't care about the musketeers and will get us out regardless of what the captain says.

Reynaldo:

You are right. Then we can let Valliere catch up to us and we can be off. We should deal with the captain and his musketeers if we get the chance but otherwise try to find a healer and lay low.

William: Lay low? How is that done, exactly?

Reynaldo:

Hmm, well we could knock a certain highlander unconscious for a few days....
