A SMEARY (OR SMEARED) HAIKU

The coventry of errant crows
the walking Styx, the infermenting fear
the crescent ghost, the crushed grass
elements descending from above
and in the clouds, the hushed caress
the grimace as of a whale
bilging his excess vent waters

Across the grass, in the clouds
the marching sound as of the doves
thrushing through the last seedling piles

In the sand, over and above
the entrenching of air-holes
the lolling of a derelicted worm

Upon the sound of an invisible stopwatch
the resounding yell of school children
who will not go to the beach.
