GARNET
In 1862, gold was discovered here by 2 mining partners.  After a disagreement, one partner sold out to the other for just $50.  He later hanged himself.  This mine, The Nancy Hanks, produced until 1954.  It produced over $10,000,000 in gold.  It also produced over 50,000 ounces of silver and 60,000 ounces of copper.
The town went through its good and bad times through the years, nearly becoming a ghost town a few times.  In 1947, Frank Davey, the towns last merchant, died and took many of the secrets and stories Garnet with him to the grave.  Many good buildings still remain to tell their own story.

                  DIRECTIONS
As I hear it, there are two ways into Garnet, but one is much easier than the other.  I will give directions to this way.  If you start in Missoula, takr I-90 east a couple of miles to highway 200 exit.  Take this Highway east for 25 miles to Greenough.  From here, take a gravel road south a few miles to Garnet.
