"Door Door" "(c) 1985 CHUNSoft" "(c) 1985 Enix" MSX Version: "Door Door" "Can you shut up all aliens?" "Copyright (c) 1984 K. Nakamura" (ChunSoft) "Programmed by Y. Gyotoku" "Produced by Enix" A PC-6001 version exists, it has only 40 levels. A PC-8801 version exists, it has 100 levels. Enix: The company that would be Enix sponsered a gaming contest. This action/puzzle game was programmed by Koichi Nakamura as his entry for the contest. He won first prize. Yuuji Hori also placed in the same contest. They were both hired by Enix after the contest and the rights to the game also became property of Enix. This was the first game released by Enix for the NES. The game was only released in Japan but it is entirely in English. Note: I don't know what system Nakamura originally programmed it for, but it was probably for the PC-8801 or PC-6001. "The Port Pier Serial Murder Case" was the second game released by Enix for the NES. It was written by these two and was the first adventure game released for the NES. The game was only released in Japan, but an English translation of this game will be released by DvD Translations. Enix's third game made Hori and Nakamura household names in Japan and was the first RPG released for the NES, "Dragon Quest". Nintendo released the game for the NES in the US, enhancing the player sprites, the coastline graphics, and adding a battery backup save. The name for the US release was changed to "Dragon Warrior" because another company already held the rights to the Dragon Quest name in the US. Door Door, Dragon Quest, and Dragon Quest II were also released for the MSX home computer. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Object: Trap all aliens behind closed doors. To do this, open doors. Then, close doors after aliens have walked through the open doors to trap aliens behind them. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Controls: NES: U L+R Select Start B A D L= Walk Left R= Walk Right U= Climb Up, Walk Left or Right = The direction you're facing D= Climb Down, Walk Left or Right = The direction you're facing Select= Unused Start= Pause A= Jump Up L+A= Jump Left R+A= Jump Right B= Same as A MSX: Arrow Keys = U,D,L,& R Space = A or B WATCH OUT: Walking off of a platform or jumping but not landing on a platform will kill you! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Characters: You: A cute white puffball with a baseball cap. Aliens: NES MSX MSX ------- ------- ------------------------- -------------------------- Orange Red Bucktooth with White Eyes = "Kyoro Kyoro * Namegon *" Blue Cyan Amoebae = "Gucha Gucha * Amechan *" Magenta Magenta Octopus = "Biyo Biyo * Invekun *" Green White Blob with Tail = "Pyon Pyon * Otapyun *" Namegon and Amechan act exactly the same. They are the easiest aliens because their movements are the most predictable and they cannot jump. They follow the most direct route between you and them. Invekun follows you too, but it usually goes a different way from Namegon and Amechan whenever it has a choice. Invekun also cannot jump. You can jump over Namegon, Amechan, and Invekun. Otapyun is the only alien that can jump. It always jumps when you do, so don't try to jump over it. WATCH OUT: When only one alien remains on the screen, it speeds up its movement. It can now move faster than you can! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Objects: (Colors from NES Version) White Brick Platform: Both you and the aliens walk on these. White Brick Column with Blue Handles Both you and the aliens can climb up or down these. Blue Ladder Only you can climb up or down these. White Chain Link Fence Column Only aliens can climb up or down these. White Brick Column without Handles You can slide down these. If I remember correctly, Aliens can climb up and down these. Striped Candy Blue Popsicle Lollipop Bowl of Ice Cream Cake Mahjong Tile Eat these for points. Just walk on them. Aliens can't eat them. They appear at only one place per level. Blue Bomb Avoid these, the blow up and kill you when you walk on them. You can jump over these. They appear at the same place the food does. Aliens won't get hurt or blow them up when they walk on them. Green Spike on the Ground Avoid these, they kill you when you walk on them. You can jump over these. Aliens won't get hurt when they walk on them. Blue Arrow These signify that WALKING off the side of the screen will wrap your character around to the other side of the screen. Don't try to jump from one side of the screen to the other where a blue arrow exists, you'll just bounce off the wall. If the arrow is only on one side of the screen, you can only walk the direction the arrow is pointing. Door With One Handle On The Left Side Walking past the door from left to right will open the door. Walking from right to left will close the door. Only aliens walking from right to left will enter the door. Door With One Handle On The Right Side Walking past the door from right to left will open the door. Walking from left to right will close the door. Only aliens walking from left to right will enter the door. Door With One Handles On Both Sides Walking past the door from either side will open the door. Once the door has started to open, it magically becomes a Door with One Handle until you pass the level or die. Notes on Doors: A door must be open all-the-way for an alien to enter it. A door must be closed all the way to capture an alien inside it. Once a door is closed with an alien inside it, its handle is removed and it can't be opened again unless you die. You can capture more than one alien in a door, but you have to be fast. If you take too long a green arrow will appear above the door to let you know that one or more aliens are about to come out of the door in the direction that the arrow is pointing. When you die, all trapped aliens remain trapped. But, all doors are reset to their original position. Jumping past closed doors allows you to pass a door without opening it. Jumping past open doors allows you to pass a door without closing it. There is no other way to get rid of an alien but to trap it behind a door. So, for levels with more aliens then doors you must trap multiple aliens in the same door (or die) to pass the level. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Level 50 Walkthrough: Level 50 is the last level of the game. As far as doors and aliens are concerned, it's a piece of cake. The hard part of this level is that it requires the player to have perfect timing executing moves that are required for the first time on this level. Hold= Hold The Button Down Hit = Hit The Button Once + = More Than One Button Tap = Repeatedly Hit Button Note: This usually works for step 4. This often doesn't work for step 7. This pretty much always works in step 20 & 25. The other option is to hit the button at just to right time. 1) - Don't move Left or Right at all 2) Hit R+A - Jump Right 3) - Land on bricks and start sliding down bricks. 4) Hold L & Tap A - Slide down bricks and jump left when you hit bottom 6) - Land on bricks and start sliding down bricks. 7) Hold L & Tap A - Slide down bricks. Jump left when you hit bottom. Bounce off left wall and land on brick platform to the right 8) - Wait for Namegon 9) Hit A - When Namegon reaches large brick platform, jump up to make it climb back up bricks 10) Hold R - Walk right to bricks with handles 11) Hold D - Climb down bricks with handles 12) Hit L+A - Jump left at bottom of bricks before you fall off 13) - Land on large platform with candy 14) Hold R - Eat candy 15) Hold R - Walk to right of platform 15) Hold R & Hit A - Jump to small platform 16) Hold R & Hit A - Jump to 3rd small platform 17) Hold R - Walk to right of platform 18) Hold R & Hit A - Jump to 4th small platform 19) Hold U - Climb up bricks with handles 20) Hold L & Tap A - Continue to climb up bricks with handles. Jump right when you reach tiny platform between the two sets of bricks with handles 21) - Land on small platform 22) Hold R - Walk to bricks with handles 23) Hold U - Climb up bricks with handles 24) Hold U - Start to climb up blue ladder 25) Hold L & Tap A - At top of blue ladder jump left to platform with door 26) Capture Namegon in door as usual.
