Imbolc
February 2nd
"Brigid"
Imbolc, also known as Candlemas or St. Brigid's (or Brigit) Day is one of the 4 Celtic fire festivals which fall on the cross-quarter days, 6 weeks between the Solstices and Equinoxes.
Imbolc is a time when the light of rebirth grows stronger.
Brigid is the triple Goddess of the flame. Her fire was carried from the land of Brigantia on the British Isles to Kildare, not far from Dublin, Ireland.
These fires were tended by the Daughters of the Flame; Nine sacred Virgins who could be looked at by no man. Brigid's, fires are the fires of purification and healing.
It is a time to purify ourselves as we continue to emerge from the dark of winter.
Brigid's Cross
This style of St. Brigid's Cross was hung in Ireland to keep the devil out. It was said to be a symbol of truth and to protect one's home from evil.

In Our Home....

We shall do a "Spring Cleaning", making donations to our local Homeless Shelter and a "Troubled Girls Home" Thrift shop as we clear out closets, etc.

We shall light lots of candles and make Brigid Crosses with the children. And then we shall hang them to ward off any evil and also cleanse our home throughout using both a ritual
cleansing and prayer.

We shall gather up flowers and have them all around the house, and plant seedlings as well.
By then we will hopefully have planned our small Vegetable garden, as well as my Kitchen and Medicinal Herb garden. And begin work in them.

Bright Blessings,
~Luna-Star Xylia
St. Brigid's Fire House
The remains of an ancient oratory where, according to local lore, St. Brigid's Fire was kept alight.
The shape of the oratory and the thickness of the remains of the walls/foundations would testify to its antiquity.
