WoMen @ Work" Labour, Gender & Politics A multilateral Youth-Exchange-Program, BOSPORUS-INTERNATIONAL, in Wandlitz � Brussels � Berlin 25th of August � 08th of September 2004 Organization: Bosporus Gesellschaft e.V., www.bosporus.org Participants from: Bulgaria, Germany, Greece, Rumania, Spain, Hungary Description / Aims: The general focus of the program is based on the consequences of the restructuring of the world of labour and the effect of these evelopments on opportunities and chances of young people in Europe. An important aim of the project is to sensitize participants for the relation between the structure of the labour market, the division of household tasks and gender issues. The main questions are: - How is the division of labour gendered? - How can one adapt work, family life and leisure? - Which work is highly valued and paid for, which tasks are less prestigious and not paid for? - How does this effect individual job preferences? Does the public-private split still function or is it dissolving? We expect to find some answers by discussing experiences of young uropeans from different local contexts, in workshops, round table discussions and meetings with representatives of politics, economy and civil society. Children of Abraham is a not-for-profit project that seeks to illustrate the underlying commonalities between two religions that on the surface seem very different. If you have received this email, it is because you belong to either a Muslim or a Jewish community, and are aware of the animosity that prevails between the two. On television and in newspapers you see powerful images of the �other� that may make you feel angry and afraid. There is an excellent chance that you have never interacted closely with or even met a member of the other 'side'. And yet you may know that both Judaism and Islam stem from one God, and that Jews and Muslims peacefully coexisted for centuries in many parts of the world. This project, however, will not focus on peace, a much-abused word that perhaps remains meaningless to you in light of current realities all over the world. Neither will it center on politics. What it will do is take a close and candid look at the core of both of these ancient religions, through the eyes of young Muslims and Jews. Funded and supported by Jews and Muslims in North America and the Middle East, Children of Abraham is producing a photo essay of Muslims and Jews from around the world participating in rituals, communal and cultural events, that will highlight and publicize the similarities between these mutually misunderstood faiths. You will be provided with the opportunity to make a personal statement, through your photographs, about your own perspective on your faith, in a safe, educational environment that will further mutual understanding on an international scale. We are now offering internships to young adults aged 15-20 interested in participating in Children of Abraham. Interns will be selected from approximately 15 different countries to take and submit at least 50 original photographs throughout July-August 2004 of Muslim/Jewish religious themes, symbols, rituals and events. These photographs will capture your sense of the fundamental nature of your religion, beyond the clothes you wear and the food you eat, and will be presented in an online photo essay to be internationally marketed for educational use. Step one of this project was completed in the summer of 2003 and is available in booklet form for those interested in viewing it. Interns will also take part in �Education for Coexistence�, an internet-based seminar that will tackle issues that arise from interfaith and cross-cultural dialogue. Additionally, interns will be invited to take part in future Children of Abraham initiatives, including a possible documentary film. The duration of the internship is July 1st - August 31st 2004. Interns must have regular access to an internet connection and either a digital camera or a traditional camera + scanner. Each intern will receive US$400 for full participation in all aspects of the project. NOTE: It is not strictly necessary that you be either Muslim or Jewish to be selected. | Following the call for partners in Jannuary for "Project X" meeting in Bucharest you were accepted as partners in the project. meanwhile some changes produced to initial project, due to a fail of an initial application for funds. Plan now is to apply for funding at Allavida, at their dead-line in June, which requires: 1. a change of dates: proposed ones are 1-5.09.2004. I want to live a longer life�that�s one reason why I want to be healthy and not prematurely die. There are 3.800 chemicals found in tobacco smoke Now you can see why smoking causes people to choke. Forty-three of these chemicals are knows to cause cancer So if you want to be healthy, smoking isn�t the answer. Smoking isn�t glamorous�cigarette companies have lied I�m not poisoning my body with benzene, arsenic or cyanide. I don�t want nicotine to be my master. I don�t want my heart to work harder or pump faster. My life is precious�I have no desire to wheeze I don�t want to risk dying of heart disease. Cigarette smoking kills three million e year I don�t want to be a statistic�I�ll make that clear. Second hand smoke causes many people to die I don�t want to kill my family or myself and cause them to cry. I don�t want to smoke or cause anyone to mourn Because smoking can cause babies to be stillborn. I don�t want smoker�s cough or shortness of breath As I said before, I don�t want to die of a premature death. Smoking might be in�it might be the latest fad.
