On October 18, 2000, the music world lost one of it's most gifted vocalists, Julie London Troup. Julie passed away on what would have been her husband's, musician Bobby Troup's, 81st birthday. Ms London was 74 when she finally succumbed to cardiac arrest in the early morning hours on that fall day.
Because of personal reasons, it would be a few days before I learned of Julie London's passing. But I can assure you, I felt as though I had lost a friend. No, she wasn't a personal friend, but her music was a friend to me. I was lucky enough to have been blessed with parents who appreciated quality music, and our home was most definitely filled with the warm sultry intimate voice of Julie London, long before she was a regular on Emergency!.
When my time comes. I can only hope to find myself in a smoke filled jazz nightclub, perhaps somewhere close to the moon, being entertained, with countless others I'm sure, by a gray haired man sitting behind a grand piano, while his wife stands crooning behind a microphone.
