Springfield Spirit vs. Birmingham
Power
Springfield Civic Center, MA - 2/20/03
What a game! I nearly lose my voice cheering so hard
for the Spirit. First of all, we finally got there early enough to
give our tickets to Steve Fox for exchange. We bought VIP Season tickets,
and to be honest the floor seatings are terrible, especially ours.
The seats located behind media table, and that particular side have
a lot of staffs who always sit at the same spot every single game.
The problem is that unlike Mohegan Sun, the Civic Center do not arrange
their floor seatings to be higher than the media seats, so we had
to see the game between people's head. Hopefully they will learn from
experience and do differently next year.
Anyway, we enjoyed the game so much! Spirit players
played more aggressive and Nicole Conway was awesome! She had 12 points
and 6 rebounds. I think she play with more confidence now. I like
the way she hustle out there! Rebecca and Swin scored double-double
19 points-12 rebounds and 13 points-12 rebounds respectively. However,
Swin needs to reduce her 7 turnovers in the future. Sue directed the
traffic like usual, she got some more rest this time! Her shooting
was poor, 2 out of 7 field goal attempt and 1- 4 from behind the arch.
Good thing she went to the line twice, where she's only missed once
so far this season.
Birmingham Power relied mostly on the Miller Twins for
scoring. Coco Miller contributed 28 points even with Sue Bird putting
tough defense right on her face. I guess nothing could stop her from
performing well that night, especially from 3-point-range.
The Spirit had full control at the beginning, leading
48-29 to close the first half. I don't know what happened, but they
came out very sloppy in the second half, allowing their opponent to
stay in the game, even to score more points than they were. The game
gotten so close, that they needed support from the crowds. That's
where things became so exciting!
I should have written this story right after the game
to have more recaps and details about the game, but we got home so
late and I had to work the next day. I am visiting my family in New
Jersey right now. In fact, my 1-year-old nephew is on my lap while
I am typing. He's being a good boy, but maybe not for long. Therefore,
I need to stop and take him elsewhere.
Can you believe UConn is still undefeated? They are
doing very well! Diana Taurasi , Jessica Moore and Morgan Valley actually
showed up at this game. They sat few seats away from us. They got
big applause and cheer from the crowds when they were being introduced.
It was nice to see them having fun watching and supporting former
UConn players out there.
