Springfield Spirit - Exhibition Game
Western New England College, MA- 1/31/03

The second exhibition game was packed on court, since Rebecca Lobo and Rita Williams showed up, but less audience filled the stand. Being played on Friday night might have made the difference, and I also think most people prefer to attend the real games, where they can find higher intensity and excitement level. I am looking forward to see their first game against Houston Stealth! It should be quite interesting, since Cheryl Swoopes and Tina Thompson are listed on their roster line up. Hopefully both of them will take part of Sunday's game. I've never seen them play LIVE.

To be honest, my mind was not there at all today. First of all, I had to drive straight from work, so I was tired and I was also thinking about UConn vs. Duke game. It is going to be a good one!!! Anyway, Sue Bird played well today, and with the addition of Rebecca Lobo, Sue's team (white team) was able to beat the blue team. Yatar Kuyateh also contributed a lot for the white team!

Autograph session went quicker than last week. It was an ease for me to get Rebecca Lobo's and Rita Williams' autographs, the two who missed the previous exhibition game. I also took a picture with Rebecca. As far as Sue, I printed the guest book part of this web site and handed them to her. I still couldn't get a nice conversation out of it, but hey unlike the birthday card, this time I was able to give it diretly to her in person. I just could not form any sentences to start a conversation. Terrible, huh? Anyhow, it has been a lot of fun attending basketball games. It is definitely different than my other favorite sport, tennis.

Since my company is one of the sponsors of the Springfield Spirit, I have been looking at the event from a different point of view. I am still a fan, but I always try to see it as a business opportunity, which is kind of weird. I used to be a big fan of tennis until I started working at different tournaments, getting to know the people behind the scene, and the sport became a job instead of a fun event. I guess it is depends on how you approach things in life including jobs. I joined the working class last year after finally saying goodbye to college. Being thrown into the wilderness as a rookie was not a fun thing! The real world is full of challenges! I am now working in a totally different field than what I studied for in College, but guess what? I have learned new things and seeing challenges as opportunities. Basketball is currently one of the tools I use to turn my job around from serious to fun. It was certainly not an easy marketing proposal to do, but I somehow managed to make it work. The sponsorship deal is an example of a good start from my rookie year.

Springfield Spirit vs. Houston Stealth game on Sunday will be the first assignment for me to do. I will have to monitor how the company I work for being promoted at the event, and whether it will actually be beneficial to the company. Okay, now enough about me!

ARE YOU READY TO START THE SEASON???

I hope you are, because I am ready to finally have a home team with favorite players to cheer for!!!

GO SPRINGFIELD SPIRIT!!! GO SUE!!!
