Springfield Spirit vs. Houston
Stealth
Mohegan Sun, CT- 3/8/03
Aggghhhh! That's my comment about this game! Aside from
watching Cheryl Swoopes play, it was the worse game I've ever watched!
Almost every shot from Spirit players either short or bounced off
the rim. Swin Cash was the only one who were hustling and produced
26 points! I have to give her credit for that! Even with 4 players
scored double digits, the Spirit could not keep up with Houston.
Michelle Snow only missed one shot, Tamicha Jackson
made 4 out of 6 three-point attempts, Cheryl Swoopes, Octavia Blue
and Kelly Gibson contributed to the team with double digits of their
own. It was basically a battle between a "playing so well"
team against a "playing so bad" team.
I couldn't believe how bad it was. At times I thought
I was watching the wrong game or something. I guess playing back to
back against tough opponents got into them. They looked tired and
their shots were not falling at all. The crowds weren't as great as
the Springfield crowds, so it was hopeless. I was biting my nails
through out, hoping for a miracle, but nothing happened as they lost
by 20 points.
Sue only made 1 shot through out the game. Ouch! It
wasn't even due to a very tough defense from Houston, but mostly short
or bounced off the rim as I have mentioned earlier. It was not like
Sue at all. She looked fatigue. However, good thing about Sue is that
she never gives up. Even if she has a rough shooting night like this
one, she tries to contribute in other aspect of the game. Sue had
6 assists, 4 steals and 2 rebounds. She could have had more assists,
but with poor shooting percentage from everyone else, it did not happen.
Thank God their next opponent, Grand Rapids Blizzard
isn't as tough as the other two teams, especially when they are playing
away games. It is actually a re-scheduled game from Feb. 17th game
that was cancelled due to severe weather condition. So, I am hoping
for a much better performance from the Spirit.
We did not hang around too long after the game, since
we had to drive back up north. We ran into Cheryl Swoopes and some
other Houston players on our way out. Since they won the game, we
said "Good Game" to Swoopes. She stopped and said thank
you. Oh, I was speechless! She's one of my favorite WNBA players.
Too bad I didn't have anything for her to sign!
Don't worry guys, I still like Sue Bird the best among
all!
