My Bio:

Fernando Ram�rez-Mireles (M'88,SM'2001) received his B.S.E.E. from the Metropolitan Autonomous University (UAM), M�xico, the M.S. in E.E. from the Center for Advanced Studies of IPN (CINVESTAV), M�xico, and the Ph.D. in E.E. from the University of Southern California (USC), Los Angeles, CA, USA.

He has worked for the Mexican Telephone Company and CINVESTAV, and also consulted for the National Bank of M�xico. He was a Research Assistant at USC's Communication Sciences Institute, where he worked on ultra wideband (UWB) communications. In the summer of 1997 he was a MTS at Torrey Science Corp., San Diego, CA, where he worked on spread spectrum LEO satellite Communications. From 1998 to 1999 he was a MTS at Glenayre Technologies, Santa Clara, CA, where he worked on definition of demodulation architectures for NPCS mobile terminal. From 1999 to 2001 he was a MTS at Aware, Inc., Lafayette, CA, where he worked on technology development for DSL standards. From 2001 to 2003 he was a Senior Systems Engineer at Ikanos Communications, Fremont, CA, working on system design and algorithm development for VDSL. Presently he is a professor at ITAM, M�xico city,  (www.itam.mx), where he teaches communications systems.

He has authored or co-authored over 20 technical articles in areas including effects of crosstalk in DSL, modulation and signal design for UWB communications, spread spectrum multiple access performance, performance in multipath channels, and speech recognition. Multiple researchers around the world have cited his work on UWB. He has been invited to talk about VDSL and speech recognition. He acts as a reviewer for IEEE Transactions on Communications, on Wireless Communications, on Vehicular Technology, and on Signal Processing; IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications and IEEE Communications Letters; ICC,  GLOBECOM, MILCOM, and VTC. He has one patent  granted, and two more pending, all on DSL.

Dr. Ram�rez-Mireles biographical profile is included in Marquis Who's Who in America (2003,2004,2005,2006) and International Who's Who of Professional (2005). He is an IEEE Senior Member (2001). He was a Fulbright Scholar while studying his Ph.D. program at USC. In M�xico, he won an honorific Mention in the IV Ericsson's National Prize of Science and Technology, he was member of the National System of Researches, he received the Medal to the Universitarian Merit, and his name was included in the list of The  Best Students of M�xico in two occasions. He is a member of Tau Beta Pi and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers. His research interests include signal design, performance in multipath channels, synchronization and Crosstalk interference.
