Cool Games I Play That You Should Check Out

Command and Conquer

The greatest Real Time Strategy franchise of all time. From the first "Command and Conquer" title developed by Westwood,
to the newer EA developed ones, the gameplay is always solid if sometimes a little formulaic. Tanks can crush infantry, flamethrowers leave no bunker safe, and stubborn foes can be annihilated with a nuke or Low Orbit Ion Cannon. The first 3 games in the series are free, so you have NO excuse to not at least try it. If you like it, consider purchasing the Remaster of the first two games on Steam.

Sid Meier's: Alpha Centauri

Make planetfall in the year 2090 after fleeing from an Earth beset by war, famine, and disaster. I don't often call games "smart", especially in today's climate of hamfisted political allegory but this game really is smart. While slightly clunky, there are numerous fan patches out there that can make the game more palatable to modern tastes without distorting the gameplay. Alpha Centauri is what Civilization wishes it could be. The politics between factions is a step above the "I love you/I hate you" dichotomy, the story and setting are interesting, and the atmosphere is fantastic. Definitely worth a shot, although I'm not as big of a fan of the additions made in the "Alien Crossfire" expansion.

Grand Theft Auto 2

Take to the streets of so called "Anywhere City" in the great-great-grandfather to everyone's favorite Grinding Simulator, back when GTA was about stealing cars instead of being an armed UPS driver. With an interesting indie soundtrack, very fast driving, and probably the best aesthetic I've seen in a GTA game, GTA 2 is much like the sports cars it intends the player to covet: Fast, Dangerous, and good for a quick spin. However, the game still has a lot of arcade-era features that reveal its age. Limited lives, an interesting if not cumbersome system of the maps only having 1-2 save locations with only an arcane in-game way of finding them due to a lack of any type of map, and tank controls that will often lead to split second shots leading to you demise.
