Board Meeting Minutes
March 2, 2008
Present: Laura Szempruch, Beth Mizelle, Lori Viola, Bob Mayer, Patty Vogt, Joel Lewis, Julie Hammons, Chuck Grosser, Steve Linder, Ann Auffrey (scribe).
Excused Absence: Dan Howett, Karen Hesse.
I. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by President Laura Szempruch at 7:04 pm.
II. Approval of Minutes: The minutes from the February Board meeting were read. Beth Mizelle made a correction to the minutes where "buy" needed to be corrected to "bye" under Athletic Director’s Report about the Men’s Basketball team. Steve Linder made a motion to approve the minutes as corrected, seconded by Bob Mayer.
III. Athletic Director’s Report: Chuck Grosser reported the following items:
- March 10th is the first day for Spring Sports.
- Junior Demond Sanford of the Wrestling Team wrestled 171 pounds all year, then wrestled at 189 and qualified for State. He placed 4th in the District. Demond wrestled the two-time State champ at State and lost; he was 5-4 in the Consolation Round.
- Senior Heather Savitt of the Swim & Dive Team qualified for State second year in a row. She placed 13th in the 200 m freestyle, and 19th in the 500. She is going to Ashland next year.
- Winter Sports Awards will take place on Wednesday, March 12, 7 pm in the PAC.
- There will be two Middle School home track meets. The first one will be April 3, which will be 3 teams. On April 15, there will be a 6 team meet. Final schedules for both high school and middle school will be sent to Boosters for concession stand planning.
- The new sprinkler system will be installed by Forrest Lytle in March, weather permitting.
- Cook Field is being redone. A drain tiles system will be added in July. One hundred tons of baseball mix will be needed. The plan is to do infield so it’s slope appropriate, which will help with drainage. The rest of the project will be completed in the summer.
IV. Membership Report: Lori Viola reported that there was one new member who joined at the $50 level since our last meeting, which brings our total up to 101 members.
V. Old Business
- Concession Stand renovation: Nothing new to report. We’re just waiting until the track season is over to begin work.
- Booster Bash:
The event will be held on Saturday, March 15, from 7 pm – midnight at The Grove. Ann reported that Dan Howett cannot attend the Bash, but wants tickets to sell. Discussion was held regarding the tasks that need to be done and who will do them. Also discussed was the Wii raffle. Lori suggested that we sell raffle tickets at $5 each, or 3 for $10. Ann will e-mail the list of duties to all Board members and who has volunteered to do each one, as a reminder.
- Trailer to sell concessions at Baseball games:
Laura reported she has not heard from Wes Girdler to follow up with him about our need for more information.
VI. New Business
- Coach Membership: Ann brought up the idea that we think about offering a reduced membership to coaches, such as $10 or $15, which might increase our membership from the athletic coaches. After some discussion, it was decided we would not implement a membership level for coaches, and will leave our membership fees at the current levels.
- New Board Member:
Joel Lewis was welcomed as a potential new Board member. Steve Linder made a motion that we vote in Joel as a member of the Boosters Board, seconded by Bob Mayer. The motion was voted on, and passed unanimously.
VII. Adjournment
A motion was made by Patty Vogt, seconded by Beth Mizelle, to adjourn the meeting. The meeting adjourned at 7:55 pm.
The next meeting of the Finneytown Boosters Association Board meeting will take place on Sunday, April 6, at 7 pm at the Springfield Twp. Senior Center.
