Finneytown Boosters Association Board Meeting Minutes February 11, 2007
Present: Laura Szempruch, Karen Hesse, Allyson Stacey, Wes Girdler, Lori Viola, Lois Siegle, Steve Linder, Patty Vogt, Bob Mayer, Jim Booth (representing Men’s Basketball/Shannon Minor), Chuck Grosser, Ann Auffrey (scribe).
I. The meeting was called to order by Vice President Laura Szempruch at 6:02 pm.
II. Minutes from the January Board meeting were reviewed. A motion was made by Allyson Stacey to approve the minutes, seconded by Wes Girdler.
III.Treasury Report: Lois Siegle reported that we did well with the Wrestling Tournament and brought in about $1200. She had opened an account for the 300 Club. Wes Girdler recommended that we drop the price of the tickets to $50, and we make a big effort to sell hard between now and the end of the school year. We need to contact those persons who already bought tickets and ask if they now want to buy two tickets or get refunded $50. We should have our first drawing at the August meeting. We need to try to sell 300 tickets at the price of $50 each. We should promote the 300 Club at our Boosters Bash in March. We can use the same tickets, since it says 2007 on them.
We also need to discuss before the end of the school year what we want to do about our grants. We may have additional funds this year that could be used for more grants. We’ll need to see how our events do financially. The Boosters Bash may not do as well in terms of money brought in this year, as Bid-n-Buy may be down from last year.
Lois has written a form letter for donations for tax purposes. We need to send a mass e-mail to our members for possible donations of products or services. Donations of items for gift baskets, gift certificates, products, services or money to put towards gift baskets are welcome. Ann will send out the letter to our Boosters e-mail list.
Lori Viola made a motion to accept the Treasury Report, seconded by Karen Hesse.
- IV.
- Concession Stand: Laura reported that income from Men’s Basketball is increased this year. The Wrestling Tournament did well. Thanks to all who helped staff the concession stand for the wrestling event.
- V.
- Membership: Lori reported that we have approximately 120 members. This is an increase from last year’s 91 members. Ann thanked Chuck Grosser for all his support in encouraging coaches to join Boosters. We have a high percentage of coaches who have joined this year.
VI. Old Business:
- 300 Club: previously discussed
- Concession Stand renovations: Wes reported that we need to have a meeting of people interested in the concession stand expansion and to go over the drawings he has from Larry Pyle. However, we need money from the 300 Club to carry out any expansion. We need to put on paper what we can do from start to finish, and see what it will cost. Wes believes this can be a Boosters project without having to hire a general contractor. There was discussion about an indoor grill; Laura will ask her neighbor who does St. X concessions about their indoor grill. We could visit other concession stands and look at their layouts and appliances for ideas. We need to look into the code aspect of indoor grills.
- Boosters Bash: The date is Saturday, March 17, from 7 pm to 12 midnight. Lori reported that she asked Shawn Maus to put an announcement about this event in the e-Formant. Lori will be a contact for tickets, or tickets can be purchased through any Boosters Board member. Laura volunteered to get the tickets. We will have a DJ (Lori Zwick?) and it was suggested that we shorten the Cornhole Tournament. Gary Siegle is to make cornhole sets. Bill Bennett has also made a cornhole set to donate. We need to arrange for TVs for the basketball games. Lori is to contact her father’s friend at Queen City about a donation of brats and metts, as we received last year. Desserts can be donated. Discussion took place about the food. Ann volunteered to be in charge of food. Steve Linder will be in charge of the betting board. We also need a table for the 300 Club.
- JV Team Recognition: Laura reported that a plaque is on order. It will cost $110 and will have 50 plates on it. Graphing of up to 75 letters is free; after that, the cost is 12 cents/letter. We have to decide what dedication we want on the plaque. It was discussed that CHL JV Champions would be recognized on the plaque, which will be displayed in the main gym. Discussion took place about starting with our Fall 2006 JV teams.
VII. Athletic Director Report: Chuck reported about dates for make-up games from the snowstorms. Women’s Basketball tournament game will take place on Tuesday, February 13 at 7:30 pm. This game will be played against Waynesville at Wilmington. Men’s Basketball games against Indian Hill will take place on Saturday, February 17. This will also be Senior Night. Men’s Basketball Senior Night will take place before the game. Swimming, Cheerleading and Dance seniors will be recognized during half-time.
Chuck also reported that Heather Savitt of the Swim & Dive Team has qualified to go on.
The Wrestling Team placed third in the CHL at Taylor.
Men’s Basketball Tournament game will take place on Friday, February 23, versus Indian Hill, at Anderson High School at 6 pm.
Chuck was presented with a check for $5,000 from the Boosters, which is the second half of our $10,000 donation to the Athletic Department. Chuck reported that two sets of portable soccer goals have been purchased for a cost of $2550. He also bought a set of bleachers for behind Brent Field for $2300.
Chuck reported that Eric Taylor and Mark & Sue Hesselbrock are in the
process of making a wood plaque in the shape of the State of Ohio which will
recognize students who qualify or place in State Wrestling.
VIII. New Business:
- Springfield Township Summer Blast: Lori reported that Boosters was offered the opportunity to do the Beer Booth again this year. The event will take place on June 29 and 30. Lori attended the meeting this past Monday. The hours of the Summer Blast will be Friday, June 29, from 4 pm – 10:30 pm and Saturday, June 30, from 4 pm – 10:00 pm. There will be fireworks that night.
- We will again offer the opportunity to sell pop to the Finneytown Music Parents Association. If FMPA is not interested, perhaps another group such as After Prom or the Junior Class would be interested. Allyson is to contact Budweiser. There was discussion about selling beer in bottles versus draft beer; bottled beer might be too expensive. Lori is to contact FMPA, then After Prom, about the pop booth.
- FAA Football: Wes requested that we reconsider helping out FAA Football with concessions. Discussion took place about this. We need to discuss this further in the future.
- New Boosters Board Member Patty Vogt: Lois made a motion that we vote Patty on Board, seconded by Ann. The motion was approved unanimously. Welcome to the Boosters Board, Patty.
VIII. Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned by Laura at 7:20 pm. The next meeting of the Finneytown Boosters Association will take place on Sunday, March 4, 2007, at 7 pm in the Springfield Township Senior Center.
