Chocolate Pie

Ingredients:

2 Tablespoons Argo Starch
1/2 cup sugar
2 squares unsweetened chocolate
2 eggs
1/4 cup karo syrup
2 cups milk
3 Tablespoons butter
graham cracker pie crust

Directions:

Mix the chocolate and milk in a boiler. Mix corn starch and sugar and add to the boiling milk. When thick, add butter and salt. Pour this on beaten egg yolks. Cook a few minutes longer. Pour into the pie crust and bake until done at 250°

This is an older recipe taken from an Argo Starch box many years ago. Argo doesn't even have this recipe listed as one of theirs anymore. The reason I know this is we almost lost the recipe once in a move and contacted Argo starch to see if we could get the recipe from them again. They didn't have it.

We have made a few changes to the recipe over the years. We often substitute cocoa for the chocolate squares. You can do that by using 3 Tablespoons of cocoa and one tablespoon of butter/margarine for each square. I usually cut the squares down to 1 1/2 instead of 2. We often use canned milk too.
