A Discerning Heart
by Barbara Philbrook

A discerning heart is to be sought diligently,
it enables God's children to recognize things others can't see.

It will alert you when there is something to say,
and also tell you there's danger so stay away.

It helps you to recognize the truth when heard,
be it in conversation or God's Holy Word.

Some refer to it as sixth sense you see,
but God tells us in the Bible it's His gift for you and me.

It will reveal when another's heart is true,
whether they are really loving or trying to take advantage of you.

Discernment once given is placed in our  heart,
where it then takes root and it's maturing can start.

We must learn to recognize when we are being alerted,
and from it's guidance never to be diverted.

Judging one another and discernment are as different as can be,
one is sin the other is God's gift you see.

By surrendering to God each and every day,
we can be certain we'll not be led astray.
