Shirley Allen

My life, since 1966, hasn't been so bad. Was working for the main office of the Peace Corps when we graduated, then to the Post Office in DC for about 17 months, to the IRS for a few months, and then, back to Gally to work in the Dorms (6 years); earned Master's degree from Howard Univ. while working at Gally; moved to Rochester in 1973, not to teach (but that's what I ended up doing); earned Doctorate from the Univ. of Rochester 8 years ago, becoming, what "they" said, the first African American deaf female doctor. It goes on and on - I'm seriously thinking retirement at this very moment. Have dreams of moving back to Texas. Was married, briefly - and I guess that's about it.
