The colours of the Oltenian flag represent the three major ethnic groups of Oltenia. The blue-yellow-red at the top represents the ethnic Romanian majority, while the bottom three stripes - red-blue-green - combine the red-white-green colours of the Hungarians with the red-blue-white colours of the Serbs.
