Summary: Cliff is a master vampire. Enough said.

Randy dozed off with Kirk gently brushing his hair out of his face. Im worried, even as tired, as Randy is he should be hungry; however, he is showing no interest in feeding or hunting. Hes so weak now Im not even sure he could make a successful kill on his own. Kirk looks up at me with those sad brown eyes and I know hes thinking the same as me. I gently brushed my lips against his and whispered, Hes going to be alright.

I hope so. Because if he dies I just nod my head in agreement. Death is something a vampire has trouble understanding at times.

A NEW LIFE

It took almost another two years before James was fully healed. During this time, I had gotten to know Kirk better. It turned out he was very shy and very much the recluse in the valley where his castle was located. He had learned how to heal people from his mother who had died when he was only fifteen. So, in her memory he continued her work with the people of the valley. And he hated it at times.

It isnt the fact they expect so much from me at times, he said as we walked through one of the gardens late one night. Its the fact they think that is all I am good for and they have never once thanked me.

I gently slid an arm around his waist and pulled him close for a quick kiss. At least we thank you, I whispered into his ear. He snickered at that. Its true. James hasnt tried to kill you recently has he?

No not recently and Jason has been kind enough to teach me Latin so I can do even more spells, he said as he came to a stop and turned to me. And you, he continued as he kissed me on the tip of my nose, You gave me my new life. Then it was my turn to smile. A year ago, I made Kirk my third child. I was afraid that it would drive James and Jason off but Jason was very happy in getting younger brother and Jameswell at least he didnt try to take off again. I think the reason he didnt run off was that Jason promised he wouldnt be left out. A simple promise kept my lion where he belonged, with us. However, he wasnt just my lion anymore either, he was *our* lion, our protector. Sometimes during the day, I would wake up and he would be watching out a small window in the room we all shared. He would never tell me what he was looking at but I knew there was something wrong.

We need to leave soon, I said to Kirk suddenly as we started to walk again. James is getting antsy from staying as long as we have.

I know, he answered as he gave my hand a gently squeezed my hand. After we got back into Kirks living quarters and he started to pack what he would need once we left the security of his castle, Jason came in at a run.

James said for you to meet him at the main gate, he said between his gasps for air. The village leaders managed to get a small group to try to attack the castle. He says that if you dont want anyone to be killed you need to try to talk to them. However, by the time we got there it was too late. Those fools had attacked James and he was dealing with them in his own way.

We watched as James smoothly loped off a head of one man with his sword as he violently gutted another one with his dagger. Then he dropped his dagger, calmly reached out his hand and ripped the throat out of a man that tried to skew his with a sharpened staff. I wont say what he did to the other men but by the time he was done, he was covered in blood, and looking rather pleased with himself.

Kirk cocked his head to one side and asked with a slight smirk, Feel better James?

Much, he answered with a grin. He quickly went to the washhouse and cleaned up as we finished packing our gear in the wagon. We head out the blood-covered gate with Kirk and Jason safely tucked into the wagon, with me driving, and James following behind on his horse. Kirk silently stuck his hand out of the wagon and whispered, Fire reach to the heavens and allow no one to follow. A fire erupted deep within the castle, shooting out through the ancient walls with a roar. The wave of fire seemed to touch the sky before crashing back down and obliterating the castle.
