Heckler & Koch Model 09
Heckler & Koch Model 09*

Weapon with stock extended.

Developed to replace the G80 Weapons System, the G80K, and the Model 07 in Section FOUR and FIVE service, the 09 variant departs from the standard 77UK line to produce a quality carbine. It is developed off of the commercial HK77UKSE. The whole weapon is made of advanced alloys, using the same frame as the SE variant, along with the usual weight reducing measures. The barrel ends in a suppressor, the same as used on all HK77UK variants, modified for this version. The collapsing stock is retained, with the autostabilization stock, as well as the forward vertical grip.
The weapon uses a rather different approach to maintain it's small size. Instead of a 'typical' ammunition clip, it is fed from a hopper that is built inside of the sliding stock. The rounds are stored perpendicular (like the FN P90) and fed through a special extraction system. The rounds are stored in a 6 x 10 arrangement, with six columns of ten rounds. The extraction system is based on the never made LMG11 system. Designer Karl Erns used this as the method to operate a high capacity weapon with the small size of a carbine. In fact, the Model 09 is only slightly smaller than the FAMAS Commando. This is fed into a recoil operated, rotating breech system that aligns the round to the chamber of the weapon, using a small flap. In the 09 variant, designers added the Fuze Selection System, as used on the M56A2 Smart. This, with new M232 ammo, allows the rounds to be selected from "Super" and "Delay". This is located forward of the chamber, so when the round is fired, the FSS automatically fuzes the round. Fuze selection is accomplished from a selector lever above the trigger on the left side. This can also be adjusted via the Smartlink. The selector switch is automatically disengaged when the firer is using a Smartlink. Naturally, normal ammuniton can be used with this weapon. The firing pin used to fire the round is right behind it, thus eliminating the rod needed to absorb the recoil, allowing the weapon to be smaller, even with a 13" barrel. With this design, this is able to provide an impressive 500 rpm capability. The receiver itself is below the barrel, right after the chamber. Thus producing a weapon with good all around firepower and large ammunition capacity, yet staying compact.
Other features include a Smartlink II sytem, with COT interface, which is hooked up to a rangefinder, making the weapon very accurate at long ranges. Another improvement is the use of an ambidextrous manual clip release system on the weapon. The selector switch is the standard "0-1-3-30" configuration.
Clip design
The weight of the clip is 1.2 kilos with a full 60 rounds inside. The clip itself pushes up the rounds from the bottom, with the extraction system taking the next available round. This has been tested thouroughly, and produces little jamming, a hallmark of Heckler & Koch weapons. These clips are reusable, and are made of lightweight plastics. Fully loaded, the Model 09 weighs only 3.8 kilograms. Unloaded, the weapon weighs 2.4 kilograms. Another major difference is the use of the Electronic Recoil Adjustment system, common to the G-6K2 and the MP5 "Navy" series of weapons. Another innovation in the weapon is the sighting system. Using a standard sized scope, and modifying the optics so that a low-light filter is incorporated. Using a chemical stimulant, the user, through the smartlink, can select low-light or standard day sighting on demand. It is a full 9x (IM-3) magnification optical scope, with a special interface for the COT system. Backup iron sights are on top of the scope, and can also be used in low-light conditions. If needed, a secondary sighting system can be mounted as well. The weapon's barrel length is the same length, keeping the same 'footprint' as well as keeping costs down. They also offer clip holders using the TAG FireForce II system, with a specialized holder that holds two clips.
Dissasembling the weapon for cleaning is also easy, with the weapon designed to be. The Rotating Breech system, despite it's complexity, is also easy to clean. A maintenance kit is installed in the butt of the rifle that has the proper tools to clean it. Additional kits cost 50¥ and weigh .2 kilgrams (weight for the weapon includes this). An instructional chip is also included with the weapon.

M232 Ammunition
The M232 5.56 x 33mm round is a caseless projectile encased in a rectangular block of nitramine. Unlike most other caseless rounds, the round is fuze selectable from the fuze selector on the Model 09. It has two modes, "Super" and "Delay". The first mode, "Super" is a setting for soft targets and will detonate the round on impact. The "Delay" setting explodes the shell only after penetrating the target armor. Selecting the type requires a Free Action through the Smartlink. Note that the player must announce what type he or she is going to use. The electronics in the weapon automatically fuze the round as it exits the chamber. It is not possible to change fuzes during a burst or full autofire attack. The firer must declare in the next phase in the Free Action which fuze he or she is using if it is different from the previous fuze.

8 .15 +2/no change

For game purposes, treat the round as EXplosive in the "Super" mode, and in "Delay" mode, treat as EX, but also use APDS rules. One clip of M232 rounds weighs 2.25 kilograms.
