"Five of us infiltrated the American perimeter, creeping slowly and..... wearing our thermal smocks to disguise our heat trace. We knew that our cautious approach and protective clothing would renderus invisible to the enemy sensors. As we left the treeline, we encountered a barrier of fragmentation wire and a line of robot sentries emplaced by (the Colonial Marines). To our amazement, the sentry guns opened up immediately, cutting Private Xong in two, and pinning the rest of us down until the American Marines arrived. It was not until later that we were told that Xong, a novice soldier, had..... failed to switch off his (his IFF) when we had left our lines, not realising it would act as a radio beacon for the robot sentries."

- account of Lieutenant Pang Ho San, 21sst Combat Cadre, captured on Helene 215

Designed for site security, the UA-571C is built around the M56A2 Gun Assembly, with the thermal sight and trigger assembly removed. The weapon is mounted on a collapsible tripod that offers 6 points of recoil reduction. The tripod requires two Complex Actions to deploy/breakdown. The UA-571C uses the same electronics as the Ares Sentry System, but incorporates the M56A2 Smart's ballistic computer. Any accessory may be added to the weapon, further enhancing the system. Integral sensors are low-light and thermographic. This is also in one assembly, reducing the time required to set it up, with an average squad with two soldiers setting up the system requiring four Complex Actions. All parts are modular, allowing easy removal and replacement in the field.
The weapon is fed from a 500 round drum, and is chambered in the new 10 x 28mm caseless round. And in has an Imp. Gas-Vent III system on the barrel, with the tripod absorbing the rest of the recoil of the weapon. Added to the chamber is the new Electronic Recoil Adjuster to handle the massive recoil that the 10 x 28mm produces. Note that the M56A2 mounted on the UA-571C is not interchangable with the M56A2 Smart system, and vice versa, as each is designed for thier different platforms. The weapon can fire full auto bursts, or three round bursts, selected by the ballistic computer, which also determines the necessary amount of ammunition to be used. The standard ammunition is the M250A1 caseless round, as it has proven to be reliable, and efficient. Upon acquistion, the weapon will boresight itself like the M56A2 Smart, and use those rules except for the obvious for this system. The system can offer full 360º coverage (terrain and other factors limiting), and -10º to +60º firing arcs.
The system has an Initiative of 25 + 2D6, which cannot be changed. The sensor system maintains a 60º cone of view, using the sensors to make a composite picture of the target. The weapon has a Firearms skill of 8, which can be increased . For the Intelligence, the maximum Intelligence is 10, and the Firearms skill has no limit, but make it reasonable. The whole system weighs 29.78 kilograms, and can be broken down into two parts, the Gun Assembly and the tripod. The Gun Assembly plus the sensors weighs 6 kilograms, while the tripod itself weighs 6 kilograms. A full drum of M250A1 ammunition weighs 10 kilograms, with the tripod being made out of strong metals to allow up to an extra 50 kilograms plus the tripod and Gun Assembly to be carried. This can be put into a large case, which holds both assemblies. It has no concealablity, but has a Barrier Rating of 15.
Included with the system is a remote control system, which is the size of a standard laptop computer. This controls all the functions of the system, allowing the character to set up the weapon without having to physically set the gun's computer and allowing it to be set up behind cover. The command console is connected to the UA-571C by an encrypted datalink (Rating 14), and can be used 300 meters away. It is shockproof and is mounted on the side of the carrying case. The command console weighs 2.0 kg. It has a Concealability of 3, and has a Barrier Rating of 7.
The UA-571C can be set to "Auto", which allows the weapon to follow a preset arc, interrogating the target with an integral IFF transmitter. If the transponder shows a negative, the weapon fires. The other mode is "Semi-Automatic", which allows the operator to decide if the weapon should fire. The transponder information is displayed on the console, and the operator can choose whether or not to fire. The IFF transponders consists of a chip that holds the IFF code. This must be worn at all times or the UA-571C will open fire. It is a small waterproof and shockproof case that can be worn almost anywhere (Concealability of 15, and a Barrier Rating of 5), which can have a small clip that allows it to be attached to the wearer.

The weapon mounts an Improved Gas-Vent III that provides 4 points of recoil compensation. The tripod offers 6 points of recoil compensation. And the Electronic Recoil Adjustment is preset for 10 rounds compensation. It has a Smartlink II system combined with a rangefinder. Use heavy weapon recoil rules. The weapon follows the same rules for fire as a normal weapon, but M250 rules can be found here.

UA-571D
The UA-571D is a laser based version of the -C version, incorporating an Ares MP Laser system. The same sensors on the -C, allowing some commonality of parts between the different versions being developed. The weapon has an additional layer of protection, raising the effective Barrier Rating to 17, to protect the sensitive components.
The major difference is that the UA-571D is a "gatling" style weapon, able to fire bursts of four shots per Simple Action. A total of 48 shots is available for the weapon. When the weapon fires, the barrels spin as to provide cooling for the high rate of fire (for a laser system). Damage and range is the same as per the MP Laser stats. This is the heaviest of all UA-571 variants.

UA-571F
Another variant, the UA-571F is an automatic grenade launcher version of the UA-571C system. Using a purpose built action to fire, the UA-571F has all the features of the -C version, supplementing the system with a rangefinder with a grenade link for accurate placement of grenades. The magazine holds 100 minigrenades, divided into four sections, allowing the system to select the appropriate type of round to be used. The drum feeds into a "central" hub, preventing somewhat jams. The system requires a Simple Action to select a different round from the system. Also, the system is the lightest of the three, allowing quicker deployment of the system (halve all times to set up). The weapon can fire semiautomatically, or four round bursts.
