Neighbor

Looking out my window toward the neighbor moving in
He lives alone, solitary, without anyone but his pets
As the boxes and crates are moved inside, the clouds roll overhead
The shadow of despair sweeps across the countryside...

His pale eyes are shallow, but pierce deeply into your soul
The clothes he wears are morbid and reveal his inner sadness
He seems as if he'd rather be dead than to live this life of pain
Or maybe he is not wishful, but already there in a way...

Night slowly arrives, and with the darkness come his guests
Young couples and teenagers show up for a midnight party by his request
The parties are held within his home and never create a scene
For when the neighborhood wakes, the guests are gone, no trace to be seen...

One night, I watched from my window as the people walked inside
Their faces seemed calm, yet concerned, as if for an interview
People came and people entered, but there wasn't a person who left
I spied right through morning, but the party never seemed to end...

Curious, I went and knocked upon my neighbor's door
I was invited in for lunch and was swiftly brought inside
Bound and gagged I sit, curiosity killed the cat
Tonight, he'll have the whole neighborhood for dinner...
