Speakers

The speakers I am building are similar to the ProAc Response 2.5. My speakers will employ Scan-Speak D2010/8513 tweeters and 18W/8535-00 mid-bass drivers. Unfortunately I believe SS has changed the specs of the 8535s and renamed the new unit 8535-00.

The speakers are mostly done. They are fully assembled, but I will need to transfer the crossover to a more pleasing looking box. Right now they are sitting on a piece of MDF. I've now had a bit of time to listen to them. The speakers are probably not fully broken in, but they are certainly getting there. The bass has developed nicely over the past few weeks. Here's a picture of the setup.

You're lucky the picture was taken from far back and the image size is small. There are numerous faults in the veneering of the speakers, but easily repairable faults. That and the sides, top and plinth aren't veneered yet. I have yet to put a finish on, also. I also wish that I could have book matched the fronts, but that's the price you pay when you get cheap veneer. This being my first veneering job, I didn't want to spring for anything ridiculous, like makore or Blue Moon mahogany.

Oh yeah, the Flexy rack that I am using is also unfinished. I need to spike it to the floor. Right now it sits on halved tennis balls to avoid damaging the carpet in this room.

Here are some details of the crossover: The caps are Axon, the inductors are Goertz copper foil (except 1 out of 3, it is a custom wound Madisound unit), and the resistors are Mills.

Here is a picture of the drivers that I used:
