Introducing: Madame Indica Oshun (1 page - 402 word Short Bio)

 

A 26 year old African-American songstress who's conscious, jazzy, soulful, funky, hip-hop style embraces the five elements of sound. Her music both uplifts and inspires the listener. Although a native of Los Angeles California, Madame Oshun's roots stem from Louisiana and Belize.

 

Her vocal talents became known at the age of five, when she performed in school plays and church events, however, it wasn't until the tender age of 13 that she began to write lyrics and arrange music. She has a diverse style, but her strengths are jazz and R&B.

 

The young songbird took flight between 1989 and 1991 when she won first place consecutively in district and regional competitions of the World Wide Church of God's Talent Showcase. It was also in 1991 that she performed on the Lou Rawls Parade of Stars and the dear Darryl Strawberry special.

 

Madame Oshun has had the pleasure of performing with Hazel Payne Buckle - A Taste of Honey (Ambassador College 1993), and began singing with La Face recording artist Sonja Marie (1997). In 2001 she recorded a track with rap artist the Luniz.

 

The venues where Madame Oshun has appeared are as diverse as her sound, and they include: The Baked Potato, The El Rey, Luna Park, and a performance at the 14th annual African Market Place. (1999 - 2000 ). Indica Oshun also graced the stage of The Martini Lounge in 2001, when she participated in the Unsigned Artist Showcase, hosted by radio personality The Poetess.

 

Bob Marley, Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Tina Marie, and Stevie Wonder, are among Madame Oshun's she many musical inspirations. Aside from the joy she gets from spending time with loved ones, especially her two-year-old son Jaisire; the light of her life, her other interests include acting and chilling with friends.

I use what I've gone through in my life as a tool to help others in their everyday situations. My purpose is to bring original music to the masses, music with a conscious and positive message. I feel every opportunity is the chance to uplift and enlighten everyone who hears my message. I believe in God the Most High and I gain strength knowing that is where my gift and strength comes from.”
