E         Sammendrag av Paulings praktiske anvisninger på å ta vitamin C

1.      Når man er frisk

1.1 Hva bør man velge å ta: Askorbinsyre eller natriumaskorbat?

Som vitamin C velger man her i landet i praksis mellom askorbinsyre (E 300) og natriumaskorbat (E 301). (Selv om kalsiumaskorbat, E 302 også selges er prisen i apotekene 3,8 ganger så høy som for natriumaskorbat.)

Noen mener at de tåler natriumaskorbat bedre enn askorbinsyre. (NB: Askorbinsyre skaper ikke magesår. Magesyren er en sterk syre, og askorbinsyre øker ikke dens surhet.) For enkelte er en blanding av askorbinsyre og natriumaskorbat det som bekommer dem best, for eksempel 50/50. Vær klar over at E 301 er lang mer lettoppløselig enn E 300, og det er jo en fordel.

Hva angår nyresten,  er det 2 typer. Den ene typen dannes i alkalisk urin, og består av kalsiumfosfat, magnesium ammonium fosfat, kalsium karbonat, eller blandinger av disse stoffene. Den beste måten å gjøre urinen surere på er å ta askorbinsyre som vitamin C. –Den andre typen nyresten som har en tendens til å bli dannet i sur urin, består av kalsium oksalat, urinsyre eller cystin. Personer med slik urin bør ta natriumaskorbat som vitamin C.

Ta ren, krystallinsk vitamin C, uansett om du velger E 300 eller E 301. Det er langt billigere enn tabletter (en strøken standard teskje = ca. 3.000 mg koster ca. 1,20 kr/dag), medfører ikke at man får i seg store mengder fyllstoffer fra tablettene, og er et beskjedent volum å konsumere.  

1.2 Hvor meget bør man ta?

Vær klar over at du i den første uken lettere får løs avføring enn senere, alle andre forhold tatt konstant. Dette er en overgang. 

Start med 1.000 mg eller 2.000 mg oppløst i veske, for eksempel i appelsinjuice, melk, Farris eller annet som passer for den enkelte. Øk dags-inntaket etter hvert til du får en løs, vandig avføring. (Dette er din magetoleranse-grense). Reduser inntaket litt etterfølgende dag hvis avføringen er like tynn. Ta vitamin C om morgenen, gjerne etter måltidet. Det riktige kvantum for deg er når du får en avføring som kommer naturlig etter frokost. 

1.3 Kan man hoppe over 1 eller flere dager?

Det er viktig at tilførselen av store mengder vitamin C ikke utelates selv en enkelt dag. Det er en tilbakeslagseffekt når C vitamintilførselen utelates, hvilket fører til økt sykdomsrisiko. (En langsom nedtrapping gir ikke denne tilbakeslagseffekten. Les mer om dette i punkt 5.5 på side 17.)

 

2.      Når man har symptomer på sykdom

2.1      Nødvendig kvantum ved virusangrep

Vitamin C har liten effekt ved akutte symptomer før man kommer opp i doser tilsvarende 80 til 90% av magetoleransen. Den økes vesentlig ved virusangrep (og bakterieangrep). 

2.2      Nødvendig kvantum ved forkjølelsesangrep

Ta 1.500 til 2.000 mg vitamin C ved første tegn på forkjølelse, og gjenta dosen hvert 20. til 30. minutt til symptomene er blitt borte; hvilket vanligvis skjer ved 3. dose.
