Brief histoty of the early Simonis family

Matthijs Simonis, born in Luyk (Lige) Belgium 1623, possibly under the name of Mathieu (Matthijs) Simon, moved to Holland and settled in The Hague around 1650. He married Maria van der Maesch and out of this marriage produced four children, one of which was named Andreas. Andreas married Cornelia Maria Cramers in 1687. One of their sons, Hendrik Lambert Simonis, married Hendrina Wijnants in 1720. Hendrina was a daughter of Jan Wijnants and Alida van Nassau.(Gravin Alida Cornelia van Nassau-Odijk). Alida was a daughter of squire (jonker) Willem van Nassau. He was a son of Willem van Nassau, heer van de Lek (Nassau-La Leck), who himself was the illegitimate son of Prince Maurits van Nassau. Maurits van Nassau never married, but the children born out of his relationship with Margaretha van Mechelen were partly recognised and brought up as royals. This part of Dutch history has been well documented by Dr. A.W.E. Dek in his book "Bloedverwanten van Prins Maurits" (Bloodrelatives of Prince Maurits).
