Burn the Priest - Burn the Priest

Lamb of God is getting pretty damn popular these days. They just signed to a major label, get played on MTV2 and Fuse...they even have merch being sold at Hot Topic. So now all the kids at the mall finally know whats going on. Whatever. Im pretty damn sure they dont know that their new favorite band existed under a different name a few years back, and that the old band kicked some serious ass too.
The band I'm talking about was called Burn the Priest. It had 4/5 of the Lamb of God boys and they tore up Virginia before changing their name and evolving their sound.  "Bloodletting" is the opening track on their self titled release and it fucking rules. Seriously, the LoG guys still play this song live for a reason! The track starts off with Randy taking a deep inhalation of air as he braces himself for the balls out attack that comes next. The drums are fast, the guitars are piercing and the vocals are totally wild and indecipherable...PERFECT! The tempo changes into this stomping groove that sets the tone for the rest of the album.
Other stand out tracks are "Resurrection-9" "Lies of Autumn" and "Lame." While every song on this record is heavy and very intense, after a while some of the songs start to sound like they are meshing together which gets kind of boring. Another down side is that the audio mix of this album is a few decibels lower than a normal CD.That aside, all the basic elements that make Lamb of God so fucking good are established here and makes for quite a great record in its own right.
