Children of Bodom- Hate Crew Deathroll
Children of Bodom's Hate Crew Deathroll is one infectious record. You will find yourself humming their outrageous melodies days after your last listen. This was my first real introduction to this band and after just one spin I was hooked.
"Needled 24/7" is the opening track and man does it knock you on your ass. Everything about this song is wild and over the top. The sped up thrash riffs, the use of keyboards and Alexi's voice all sound amazing. Next up is "Sixpounder" and is one of the heaviest songs on the record. The song chuggs along before unloading some great solos toward the end. Yes...how could we forget the solos? There are solos crammed all over this disc and they all shred.
The guitar work and keyboards are all fast paced and technical and will be sure to put a smile on your face. Thats right, this might as well be called "happy metal." Despite the band's grim reaper mascot and Alexi's sinister black metal style vocals, these songs give off a strangely positive vibe. I have never heard anything that made me want to thrash around my room only to stop and smell the roses so to speak.
If you are a fan of the current wave of melodic death metal coming out of Sweden or if you miss the oldschool Megadeth style thrash metal, I highly recommend you pick up this record. Even if you dont like those styles mentioned above you should still give
Hate Crew Deathroll a shot, it's THAT good.
