God Forbid - Gone Forever
In the past I had dismissed God Forbid as just another metalcore band. Even when I saw them on the Headbangers Ball Tour they failed to get much of a rise out of me (maybe I was just pissed Unearth wasnt playing?) but their latest record Gone Forever has made me do an about-face when it comes to this band.
The songs still have the metalcore style most would associate with God Forbid but the thrash influence has been stepped up along with the excellent guitar work. "Force Fed" is the first track and a perfect example of this. Its one thrashy number with an amazing solo and ends in a hail or breakdowns. I recall the band being really heavy but I dont remember the brothers Doc and Dallas shredding in concert like they do here. "Anti-Hero" is one of my favorite songs and sounds the way In Flames should be playing today.
God Forbid's rhythm section holds there own quite well also. The double bass almost never stops and is especially heavy during the manditory breakdowns. The addition of clean vocals that actually sound pleasant to the ear is a nice bonus also. It seems that lately too many bands have tried to incorporate singing into their songs but fail to realize that their vocalist may scream with the best of them, but can't carry a tune to save their life. If you want to hear some metalcore filled with breakdowns and harsh vocals, some classic style guitar leads or just some modern day thrash I suggest you give
Gone Forever a listen.
