Robot Jox
Continued

Athena visits Achilles in his apartment.  Having discovered his true reasons for returning, she drugs and subdues him.  Disguised as Achilles, she hijacks the robot, barely fooling the ground crew ("Hey Jock Old Buddy').  Despite the safety precautions mustered by the control crew, the robot climbs out of the silo and onto the Death Valley playing field ("That Won't Work").

When Matsumoto's briefing recording is played back by Athena, everyone sees Tex's murder of the engineer.  Fleeing arrest and disgrace, the once respected Jox dives into the silo, smashing his body against the chamber floor.

Alexander attacks first ("Alexander's Four-Legged Robot") and, despite the use of the secret weapon, Athena is knocked down.  Jumping into his hovercar, Achilles replaces Athena ("That Won't Work / Achilles to the Rescue").

Firing his rockets, Achilles hurls into orbit with Alexander in pursuit ("Space Battle").  A missile attack on his right engine brings Achilles back to earth and a crash landing.  As Alexander moves in for the kill, the American robot changes into a land tank ("Transformation") and Achilles attempts to get beneath Alexander's robot.   Both machines are brought down ("The Final Confrontation") and the crazed Confederate Jox then attempts to kill Achilles with his bare hands ("We Can Both Live / End Titles").

In the future, war becomes a game that only professionals can play.

The novel by Robert Thurston based on a screenplay by Joe Haldeman and Dennis Paoli

Gladiators of the Future

One thunderous worldwide duel will decide the balance of world power.  Each champion is undefeated.  Each is mounted on a behemoth killer-robot capable of configuring itself for battle on land, sea, or air.  Each fight on the behalf of a billion souls.

Then a hideous accident incinerates hundreds of spectators, and the Common Market's champion refuses to fight.  Has he gone over to the hated Confederation, or simply lost his will to win?  The only person who knows is the woman who rides into battle in his place - a gladiator of the future, ravishing entire continents in a maelstrom of martial fury...
